NEGKSGARP.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON POPPER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
NECKSCARF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,467, dated January 19, 1886.
Application filed June 30, 1885. Serial No. 170,298. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON POPPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at- San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Neckscarf, of which the following is a specification.
The object'of my invention is to provide a double or changeable neckscarf combined in one and the same article of wearing-apparel.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of my neckscarf. Fig. 2 is a back view showing the holding-strap and buckle or holder in position.
In carrying out my invention I employ two strips, A, of silk or other material, of the same length and dimensions, and stitch these together crosswise or diagonally, as shown in Fig. 1, and so as to form triangular notches or spaces B at both ends of the scarf, and within these notches or triangular spaces I connect tabs of pieces C, of silk or other material of different texture or colors, so that when the scarf is reversed a different pattern or figure will be presented to view within the triangular space at either end of the scarf.
In order to connect my scarf to the neck of the wearer, I attach a shield, D, at the upper and lower ends upon the inner face thereof. and in the outer ends of these shields is made a rabbet, E, while at the lower ends of the shields is formed a flap or tab, F.
To the lower end or point of the shields is attached a buckle or clasp, G, which, when in position. is covered by the flaps or tabs.
The shields are so connected to the inner face 7 of the scarf as to provide an aperture for the passage of the holder that connects the scarf to the neck of the wearer, which consists of a strap, H, provided with a button-hole that buttons into a stud in the neckband of the shirt, in which position, when adjusted, the lower end is held by the buckle or clasp G.
My scarf is mainly adapted to be worn with a turn-down collar, and in adjusting it, when a change is desired, the clasp is released from the strap and the scarf drawn down ward, leaving the strap in the stud. when the lower end of the strap is inserted point first in the aperture back of the shield in the reversed end of the scarf, and the scarf adjusted by the strap to the neck, and the strap confined again by the clasp upon the end of the scarf so reversed.
By this means it will be seen that two scarfs v are combined in one and the same article of wearing-apparel, and that asaving of material is had that would otherwise be appropriated to flaps or extensions where single scarfs are manufactured in the ordinary way, and also that my double scarf can be easily and quickly reversed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. In a neckscarf, the combination, with the diagonally-crossed strips A A, of a shield, D, having flap F, and provided with a clasp, G, said shield and clasp being for the purpose of holding in position a removable strap, H, situated between them and the scarf, and having a button-hole at its upper end, by means of which the scarf is attached to the shirt of the wearer, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a neckscarf, the combination of intersecting strips A, the shields D D, having flaps F F, the clasp G, attached to the upper of said in its upper end, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
