V. H. ROTHSCHILD. SHIRT-FRONT. No. 8,835. Patented Dec. 7,1875.
ffweizfor."
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR H. ROTHSCHILD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR SHIRT-FRONTS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,835, dated December 7, 1875; application filed November 3, 1875.
[Term of Patent 3i yeare] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VICTOR H. RoTHs- CHILD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated an ornamental Design for Shirt Fronts or Bosoms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing making part of this speeication.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing to which reference is made. It is intended to be applied to bosoms closed in the center, as in openbacked shirts.
B B represent the body or main part of the bosom, made plain 5 A, a narrow strip running from the center neck to the waist of the bosom, consisting of a double line of stitching, near together, and very narrow and delicate plaits or folds of linen outside of them. A and A are narrow braid bindings or strips, in relief, consisting, first, of a narrow folded band, say of white material, like that of the bosom, or of some printed stuff, turned in on the edges, and at the proper time, and in the manner hereinafter described, to be stitched onto the bosom-front. Upon this band, and in the center thereof, is placed a narrower band, of a similar character otherwise-that is, folded in on the edgebut striped, barred, or otherwise colored or ornamented with figures, to give a contrast, and stitched by one line of stitches to and in the center of the other band, before described, also in relief. Narrow binding or tape may be substituted for both or either of the bands described as folded and turned in, although I prefer the method as set forth. The broader band may be secured to the bosom by its two lines of stitching first, and thereafter the narrow one, the three lines of stitching being taken entirely through the bosom from front to back ply or layer.
Having thus described how I apply the bands to form my design, I proceed to describe my design.
The bands are disposed in the following manner, to wit: Starting at the bottom of the bosom on each side, and equidistant from the strip A, the bands A and A are continued up toward the neck-band as far as about the proper location of the upper shirt stud or pin, and thence they are deflected in a gentle curve on each side to the neck-band, near where the upper ends of the bosom E E touch the neckband, leaving an enlarged, and somewhat heart-shaped, expanse of bosom in front of the collar button-hole, and under the cravat or neck-tie, when in place.
I do not confine myself to any particular color in either the broad or narrow band, but vary the same at `will, to secure variety of eii'ect. The white band A may be omitted, and A be placed directly on the shirt-front, Without materially altering the effect of my design.
1. The design for a shirt-front, composed of the ornamental strip A and bands or strips A and A, disposed in the manner described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawlng.
2. The design for a shirt-front, composed of the contrasted ornamental bands or strips A and A", placed as described and shown.
3. The design for a shirt-front, composed of the ornamental bands or strips A' and A" contrasted with the shirt-front, and disposed as described and shown.
VICTOR H. ROTHSCHILD.
