STOVE ATTACH M ENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,797, dated December 8, 1885.

Be it known that I, PETER LAHR, of Marshfield, in the county of Wood, and in the State of YVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove Attachments; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to stoves; and it con sists in an attachment by which water may be boiled or coffee roasted, as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove with my attachment in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a plan of my device with its top plate removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section of my device with a boiler in place therein. Fig. 4 isasection of the boiler. Fig. 5 is a detail. Fig. 6 is a vertical longitudinal section of my device with a roaster in place, and Fig. 7 is an end view of the roaster.

A is the outer case of my attachment. On its under side it is provided with a thimble, a, that fits into the stove as does the ordinary stove-pipe, and on its upper side it has another thimble, a, that fits in or on the stove-pipe.

B is a cylinder thatis fitted into the interior of my attachment, and on one side of this cylinder I fix a deflector, b, that extends up and out toward that side of the case, a space being left between the case and deflector to permit the products of combustion to pass up. On the other side of the cylinder a damper, G, is arranged in such a position that when turned in one direction it will close the space between the cylinder and case, and when turned in the other direction it will permit the passage of the products of combustion between the two. This damper is turned by a handle, a.

On the floor of the cylinder B, I provide a couple of inclined guides, d d, that when my device is used as a water-heater form rests for the boiler D; but when it is desired to roast coffee or the like these guides serve to receive Serial No. 128,904. (No model.)

The outer trunnion termi nates in a crank, g, and may carry a plate, H, for confining the hot air in the cylinder, or the plate may fit loosely on the trunnion and be clamped to the case in any suitable manner.

My device in practice really forms a section of the stove-pipe, and the products of combustion must rise through it to get to the chimney, and as they pass around and about the cylinder will give off their heat necessary 5 5 for boiling or roasting, the amount or degree of heat being regulated by the damper, which when closed confines the heat and causes it all to pass under and around the cylinder, or when open permits it to pass up along one side and out.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y I An attachment for stoves, consisting of the case A, of semicylindrical form, having the thimble a at the center of its rounded base, and the thimble a rising from the rear edge of its flat top, in combination with the central cylinder, B, above the thimble a, and the damper O, in line with and beneath the thimble a, andthe deflector b, secured to the cylinder on the side opposite to the damper and extending up to near the top of the case A, with a narrow space between the upper edge of said deflector and the inner wall of said case, substantially as set forth.
