Description

UNITED STATES PATENT ()Fmon.
\ CHARLES ILLING, OF JEFFERSON, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATING-DRUMS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo 173,642, dated February 15, 1876; application filed I January 2i, 1876. V
To all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, O. ILLING, of Jefferson, in the county of Jefferson and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heaters; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of'my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a radiator for heating purposes, which may also be used for cooking, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. v
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation,'referrin g to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my radiator; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
A represents a chamber of any suitable dimensions provided in the center on its under side with a collar or pipe, B, to be fitted 011 the ordinary stove-pipe collar of a stove. In the top of the chamber A, directly above the pipe B, is an opening, over .which is placed a lid, 0, to be removed when desired, and a griddle or other cooking utensil placed in said opening for cooking purposes. The chamber A is, by two or more vertical hollow columns, D D, connected with a similar chamber,
E, on top, and in the center of the upper side of this latter chamber is a collar or short pipe, G, to be connected with the stove-pipe. At the bottom, or in the collar or pipe G, is a damper, H, as shown.
The products of combustion passing up into the chamber A fill the same, and pass thence through the columns D up into the top chamber E, and out through the stove-pipe, radiating heat during its passage to heat the room.
In each chamber is a sliding or other door, I, for the purpose of cleaning out said chamher.
At the point of connection between the chambers and the columns and pipes are secured cast-iron rings a a to form proper joints.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the chambers A E, connected to the pipes or hollow columns D D by the cast-iron rings a a, and provided with inlet and outlet pipes B G, also connected by the cast-iron rings a, and the chamber A provided with an opening for the insertion of a cooking utensil, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of December, 1875.
CHARLES ILLING.
