No. 401,406 Claims. c1. 1s2 9 This invention relates to the hair stylists art, and more particularly, to a device used in the art when one is bleaching, drying, tinting, and streaking ladies hair.

While various types of devices have been devised from time to time to assist the hair stylist when working on ladies hair, none has been known to be developed until this instant that will so hold the hair in suspension until the work has been completed or the hair dried.

It is, therefore, the principal object of this invention to provide an acceleration hair suspension hood that will hold ladies hair in a suspended position as long as need be.

Another object of this invention is to provide an acceleration hair suspension hood having a plurality of adjustable members adapted to hold strands of ladies hair in any desired position.

Another object of this invention is to provide an acceleration hair suspension hood that does not actually rest on a ladys head while holding the hair in the desired suspended position.

Another object of this invention is to provide an acceleration hair suspension hood that can be adapted to hold any ladys hair in suspension regardless of the size or shape of the head.

Still another object of this invention is to provide an acceleration hair suspension hood over which a cap can be placed after the hair is secured thereto, the cap being necessary for certain treatments given a lady by the hair stylist.

The novel features which are considered as characteristic for the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will best be understood from the following description of specific embodiments, when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a back view of a ladys head with this invention in use on the same.

FIGURE 2 is a front view of a ladys head with this invention in use on the same.

FIGURE 3 is a side view of a ladys head with this invention in use on the same.

FIGURE 4 is a pictorial View of a ladys head with this invention covered by a cap on the head.

FIGURE 5 is an optional form of structure holding this invention in place on a ladys head.

FIGURE 6 is an enlarged detail View of that portion of this invention enclosed within the arrowed ellipse and indicated by the numeral 6 on FIGURE 5.

Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to FIGURE 1, it can be seen that this invention embodies a circular band 9 that is of greater diameter than a ladys head over which it is placed, and to which is removably secured a plurality of flexible V-shaped wires 10 over each end of which is slipped the end of a semi-circular plastic tube 11. Continuing to look at the drawing, it will be seen that the aforesaid wires 10 are in parallel spaced relation to one another around the periphery of the circular band 9 to which each wire is secured by the thumb screw 12.

This invention of an acceleration hair suspension hood is held in place on a ladys head by either one of two methods: it may be supported by a foam-backed strap 13 that is placed around a ladys neck, or by means of a clamp 14 that is secured to the back 15 of a chair, the clamp having adjustable mechanism projecting vertically upward in the form of two equally spaced and parallel members 16 each having an elongated opening 17 therein through which is placed a horizontally disposed thumb screw 18 that also passes through an elongated opening 19 that is in the connecting link 20 which has one end projecting between the two aforesaid members 16 which are spaced apart at distance slightly greater than that of the thickness of the aforesaid connecting link 20 which, in turn, supports the thumb screw 21 that secures the vertical member 22 in the desired position. The aforesaid member 22 projects vertically upward beyond the circular band 9 to which it is fastened by the thumb screw 23. The uppermost end of the aforesaid vertical member 22 is riveted or otherwise fastened to the center of the vertically disposed curved bar 24 that provides a means of attachment for two of the clamps 25 that are identical to all the other clamps that secure the ends of the hair 26 to this invention.

Returning now to the first method of holding this invention of an acceleration hair suspension hood in place, which in this instant has been stated to be by means of foam-back strap 13 which, as previously stated, is placed around a ladys neck, it will be seen on looking at FIG- URES l and 3 of the drawing, that a pair of L-shaped straps of rigid material 27 are secured to the back of the aforesaid foam-back strap 13 which is preferably of leather. A vertically disposed member 28 having an elongated opening 29 therein has its lower end located between the short legs 30 of the aforesaid L-shaped straps 27 to which it is secured by means of the thumb screw 31. The upper end of the aforesaid member 28 is secured by the thumb screw 32 to the vertical member that, being identical to that one indicated in the drawing by the reference numeral 22, is given the same number 22 in FIGURES l and 3 of the drawing.

When certain treatments of the hair require the use of a cap, as stated in the fifth object of this invention, the cap is placed over the acceleration of hair suspension hood (FIGURE 4) and is indicated in the aforesaid FIGURE 4 by the reference number 33, as will be further described later on in this specification.

A typical way in which this invention is used is as follows: hair bleach or dye is applied to the touch-up area or new growth, in the normal manner. The foam-backed strap 13, which is actually an adjustable collar of the buckle type, is now placed around a ladys neck. The circular band 9 is now placed over the head and held in place by either one of the two previously mentioned structures that have been described in detail. The lengths of plastic tubing 11 are now placed on the ends of the plurality of V-shaped wires 10 and the hair is parted in sections and the outer ends thereof secured to the semicircular plastic tubes by means of the clamps 25. After the hair has been so suspended and secured by the clamps the hood 33 is placed over the head as previously stated and shown in FIGURE 4 of the drawing.

Although not previously mentioned, this invention is equipped with a foam rubber lined arcuate rim 34 that is secured to the inward side of the front of the aforesaid circular band 9 to which it is secured by a plurality of clamps 35 as clearly shown in FIGURE 2 of the drawing, the purpose of the aforesaid rim 34 is to protect the front portion of the head. The clips 35 also prevent the front of the hood 33 from slipping down on the face of the lady using this invention.

It is also obvious that the particular details of construction and arrangement of the parts and members, shown in the drawings and described in the specification by way of illustration of preferred embodiments of my invention may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention which is defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. An acceleration hair suspension hood of the character described, comprising a circular band adapted to be placed over a ladys head substantially about the hair line; and a plurality of substantially semi-circular shaped tubes having their ends secured to the said circular band and their mid-portion extending upwardly to form an arc; and a plurality of clamps mounted on said tubes for securing the outer end of the hair of a ladys head to the said tubes; and additional structure adapted to hold the said hood in place on a ladys head when the said additional structure is clamped to the back of a chair.

An acceleration hair suspension hood of the character described, comprising a circular band adapted to be placed over a ladys head substantially about the hair line; and a plurality of flexible, V-shaped wires having their central portion secured to said circular band and their ends extending upward, a plurality of substantially semicircular shaped tubes having their ends encompassing ends of said wires and their central portions extending upward, thereby forming a plurality of arcuate members that are secured to the said circular band; and a plurality of clamps on said arcuate members for securing the outer ends of the hair of a ladys head to the said tubing; and additional structure adapted to hold the said hood in place on a ladys head when the said additional structure is clamped to the back of a chair.

An acceleration hair suspension hood of the character described, comprising a circular band adapted to be placed over a ladys head substantially about the hair line; and a plurality of flexible, V-shaped wires having their central portion secured to said circular band and their ends extending upward, a plurality of substantially semicircular shaped tubes having their ends encompassing ends of said wires and their central portions extending upward, thereby forming a plurality of arcuate members that are secured to the said circular band; and a plurality of clamps on said arcuate members for securing the outer ends of the hair of a ladys head to the said tubing; and additional structure adapted to hold the said hood in place on a Iadys head by means including a foam-backed strap for encompassing a ladys neck and adjustably secured in place by a buckle.

An acceleration hair suspension hood of the character described, comprising a circular band adapted to be placed over a ladys head substantially about the hair line; and a plurality of flexible, V-shaped Wires having their central portion secured to said circular band and their ends extending upward, a plurality of substantially semicircular shaped tubes having their ends encompassing ends of said wires and their central portions extending upward, thereby forming a plurality of arcuate members that are secured to the said circular band by thumb screws; and a plurality of clamps on said arcuate members for securing the outer ends of the hair of a ladys head to the said tubing; and additional structure adapted to hold the said hood in place on a ladys head by means of a foam-backed strap for encompassing a ladys neck and adjustably secured in lace by a buckle.

An acceleration hair suspension hood of the character described, comprising a circular band adapted to be placed over a ladys head substantially about the hair line; and a plurality of flexible, V-shaped wires having their central portion secured to said circular band and their ends extending upward, a plurality of substantially semicircular shaped tubes having their ends encompassing ends of said wires and their central portions extending upward, thereby forming a plurality of arcuate members that are secured to the said circular band by thumb screws; and a plurality of clamps on said arcuate members for securing the outer ends of the hair of a ladys head to the said tubing; and additional structure adapted to hold the said hood in place on a ladys head by means of a foam-backed strap for encompassing a ladys neck and adjustably secured in place by a buckle and a semi-circular rubber lined band secured to the inward side of the front portion of the said circular band for preventing the said hood from dropping down on a ladys face, since the said semicircular band will rest against the forehead of a lady on which the invention is being used.

Claims

1. AN ACCELERATION HAIR SUSPENSION HOOD OF THE CHARACTER DESCRIBED, COMPRISING A CIRCULAR BAND ADAPTED TO BE PLACED OVER A LADY''S HEAD SUBSTANTIALLY ABOUT THE HAIR LINE; AND A PLURALITY OF SUBSTANTIALLY SEMI-CIRCULAR SHAPED TUBES HAVING THEIR ENDS SECURED TO THE SAID CIRCULAR BAND AND THEIR MID-PORTION EXTENDING UPWARDLY TO FORM AN ARC; AND A PLURALITY OF CLAMPS MOUNTED ON SAID TUBES FOR SECURING THE OUTER END OF THE HAIR OF A LADY''S HEAD TO THE SAID TUBES; AND ADDITIONAL STRUCTURE ADAPTED TO HOLD THE SAID HOOD IN PLACE ON A LADY''S HEAD WHEN THE SAID ADDITIONAL STRUCTURE IS CLAMPED TO THE BACK OF A CHAIR.
