This invention relates to new and useful. improvements in hair waving devices and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a hair waving device including a cap with. means thereon for waving and curling hair.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a hair wavin device composed of a plurality of manually slidable combs that are quickly and readily removed from or applied to the device in a. convenient manner to permit replacement or cleaning of the combs.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a hair waving device including staggered rows of sliding combs that are so-arranged as to permit waves of various curves to be formed in a users hair.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a. hair waving device that is simple and practical in construction, light in weight, small and compact in structure, neat and attractive in appearance, efficient and durable in operation, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention in use;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of one of the hair waving members used in the present invention;

Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 33 of Figure 2;.

Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of one of the hair waving members used in the present invention;

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view of one of the hair curling members used in the present invention; and

Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of Figure 5.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral l0 represents a cap of preferably rubber or plastic material that will comfortably fit upon a users head.

Staggered rows of hair waving members I2 are mounted on the cap and are disposed relatively close to each other. The members I2 are each composed of a substantially rectangular or chan- 2 nel shaped guide [4 having a continuous channel 16 integrally formed therewith that receives the edges defining an opening in the cap; The, guide l4 includes a pair of parallel flanges l8 and 20 having toothed edges 22 and 24'.

The web portions 26 of the guides M are providedwith substantially rectangular openings or slots whose longitudinal side edges 28 are received in grooves or channels 30 provided in the side walls 32 of combs 34. The combs 34 include a plurality of longitudinally spaced teeth 36 that cooperate with the

The guides I4 slidably support the combs 34 and there is provided a means for each of the members l2 for retaining the combs at one end of the guides. This means comprises an ear 38 on each comb that swingably supports a latch arm 40. Substantially U-shaped spring'clips 42 are mounted on and rise from each end ofthe guides 14 and selectively receive and grip the arms 40 to hold the combs at one end of the guides. Stops 44 at the free ends of the arms 40 limit sliding movement of the arms 40 in the clips 42.

The guides I4 and the combs 34 are preferably constructed of resilient material, such as plastic, so that the combs 34 may be manually flexed to permit the edges 28 to enter the channels is and so that the guides may be flexed to receive the edges defining the openings of the cap I0. In this manner, the combs are readily removed for replacement or cleaning in a convenient manner.

Means is provided on the cap for curlin a users hair. This means consists of staggered rows of sleeves 46 that extend through the cap 10 and which include flanges 48 that rest against the undersurface of the cap. The sleeves 46 are yieldingly retained in the openings in the cap through which they extend due to the resilient characteristic of the cap but may be fitted in their accommodating openings in the cap.

A diametrical pin 50 extends through the inner portion of each sleeve. A U-shaped clip 52, of bendable material, is received in each sleeve 46 and the pins 50 extend between the leg portions 54 of the clips 52. The leg portions 54 include ends which are exposed from the sleeves as shown in Figure 5.

In practical use of the present invention, the combs 26 are moved to a selected end of their respective guides, depending upon the desired wave. For example, the guides of alternate rows are moved to the right whereas the remaining rows of guides are moved to the left, so that when the cap is removed the users hair will remain neatly waved.

The neckline portion of the users hair is divided into locks which are pulled through openings in the cap adjacent the sleeves 46 and the locks of hair are wound about the sleeves and are held against the sleeves by the clips 52 as shown in Figure 1. When the ends 54 of the clips 52 are raised and the cap removed, curls will be present in the neckline portion of the users hair.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A hair waving device comprising a cap hav-- ing parallel rows of spaced openings, and a plurality of hair waving members mounted on said cap and within the openings, each of said members including an elongated guide, a pair of parallel flanges on said guide and having toothed edges, a comb slidably carried by the guide, and means attached to the cap and engageable with the comb for holding the comb at one end of the guide.

2. A hair waving device comprising a cap having parallel rows of spaced openings, and a plurality of hair waving members mounted on said cap and within the openings, each of said members including an elongated guide, a pair of parallel flanges on said guide and having toothed edges, a comb slidably carried by said guide and having a plurality of spaced parallel teeth 00- operating with said toothed edges for waving a users hair, and latch means between said comb 4 and said guide for retaining the comb at one end of the guide.

3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said means includes a swingable arm carried by said comb, and a spring clip mounted on said guide yieldingly gripping said arm.

4. The combination of claim 1 wherein said guide includes a channel member having a web with a substantially rectangular opening therein including a pair of longitudinal side edges, said comb including side walls having grooves receiving said longitudinal edges.

5. The combination of claim 4 wherein said comb is constructed of resilient material that is manually bowed to permit said longitudinal edges to enter said grooves.

6. A hair waving device comprising a cap having a plurality of parallel rows of spaced openings, a guide mounted in each of the openings and including a continuous channel in which the edges of the openings are fixed, each of said guides having a pair of parallel flanges including toothed edges for gripping a users hair, a comb slidably mounted on each of the guides and having teeth cooperating with the toothed edges of the guides for waving the users hair, and means for selectively retaining the combs at the ends of the guides.
