Referring in detail to the drawings, whereinlike numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the illustrated device comprises a generally-rectangular sheet IIJ of suitable plastic or other solution-resistant material forming a covering for a head II to enclose the hair thereof except for selected locks or tresses I2 to which the waving and setting solutions are to be selectively applied.

The head covering I has a tubular edging I3 formed by turning under and sewing or otherwise securing the same, as indicated at I4. Near the rearward end the covering Ill has secured to the under side thereof, as by two lines I5. I of sewing, and extending across the covering parallel to its rearward end, a tube I6 formed of suitable vilexible material with its edges turned in andanchored by the sewing lines I5. The ends of the tube I6 communicate with the tubular edging I3 extending forwardly from the tube, and a drawstring. Il is disposed in the tube I6 and the forward .portions of the edging I3, including that portion along the forward edge of the covering. The terminals I8 of the drawstring ,I'I are lead through an opening in the tube I6 for tying after Y the covering has been constricted on ahead II in a well-known manner, to cause the covering `IIJ to conform closely to the head Il.

The covering is formed with transverse rows of transversely-elongated slots I9 having edges 20 turned under and sewed or otherwise suitably secured, as indicated at 2| and 2 I in Figure 5. The rows may be of varying length, as shown in Figure 1, and the slots I9 are spacedat intervals corresponding with the usual or desired spacing on the head II of the locks or tresses I2 to be Waved.

The slots I9 not in use are closed by closure sheets 22 secured in suitable manner, as indicated in Figure 6, to the under side of the covering I0 around the edges of the slots and are adapted to be easily removed to expose the desired slots I9.

The tresses I2 to which waving or other treating solution is to be applied, having been selected. are inserted in the slits 24 formed intermediate the side edges of suitable, resilient, compressiblematerial clamps 25 of rectangular shape, as indicated in Figure 8 and in Figure 2, and the portions of the tresses projecting upwardly from the clamps 25 are then passed upwardly through the proper slots I9 in the covering with the clamps positioned against the under side of the covering Ill. The clamps 25 extend on all sides of the slots I9 and when in place act as dams to prevent solution applied at the top of the covering I0 and reaching the slots I9 from passing through these slots and wetting the hair and scalp beneath the covering I0.

The tresses I2 rising through the slots I9, which are the tresses to which the cold-Waving and other solutions are to be applied, are wedged in the diametrical slits 26 of resilient, non-metallic-disc clips 21, whereby the resilient clamps 25 are drawn up tight against the under side of the covering to effectively dam the slotsl I 9.

The clips 21 have the edges of their slits 26 turned up to provide parallel ilanges 26', as indicated in Figure 7, to provide adequate spacing of these nanges for reception of a tress l2 and to provide adequate frictional grip of these flanges 3 on the tress. The end of the slit 26 opening throughthe edgeof the disc has edge portions 28 which are A,downturned along each other with one edge,` portion'provided with an extension 29 which is bent-upwardly around the other edge portionZ to close and prevent spreading of the slit 26. As shown in vFigure 7, the clip 21 is upwardly dished'vso as to l`exert tension on the top of the covering'Y ID in opposition to the engagement of a-claxnp 25 with the under side of the covering whenl a" tress is pulled friction-ally through the clip slot 2-6 and the clip is compressed downwardly to produce the tension between the clamp 25' Vand the clip 21. The flanges 26' provide mounting Ymeans for suitable tress-winding elements 30.

What is claimed is:

l. A covering for use in hair waving comprising a rectangular shaped sheet fabricated of soluedging extending therearound, a tube extending transversely of said sheet inwardly of and spaced from the .rearward end of said sheet and having each 'of'itsends' in communication with the adjacent portion of saidtubular edging, there being angopening in said' tube intermediate its ends thereof, and a drawstring 'extending through and about the portion of the tubular edging forwardly of sai'dftube and throughl said tube and having its ends projecting out of the tube opening and termiriating at a point spaced from said tube, the portion of said sheet intermediate the forward end thereof and said tube being provided with a plurality of Y rows of slots arranged in transverse spaced parallel relation, the slots of each row extending transversely of I said sheet and each adapted foi-extension of atress of hair therethrong-h1'1itY y l f l 2.-..A :coveringfor use in haid waving comprising ar rlectangularl shaped 'sheet' fabricated of solution ZAL.;

resistant material and having a tubular edging extending therearound, a tube extending transversely of said sheet inwardly of and spaced from the rearward end of said sheet and having each of its ends in communication with the adjacent portion of said tubular edging, there being an opening in said tube intermediate its ends thereof, a drawstring extending through and about the portion of thetubular edging forwardly of said tube and through saidtube and having its ends projecting out of the tube opening and terminating at a point spaced from said tube, the portion of said sheet intermediate the forward end thereof and said tube being provided with a plurality of rows of slots arranged in Vtransverse spaced parallel relation, the slots of each row extending transversely of said sheet and each adapted for extension of a tress of hair therethrough, and a detachable closure sheet covering each of said slots.
