Definitions
- the present invention relates to a coiler with a sliver guide channel such as is used in preparatory machines and the like in textile spinning mills.
- sliver coilers are provided with helical sliver guide channels whose cross sections become smaller or remain constant towards the outlet. It has been found in practice that such channels tend to become clogged. It is an object of the present invention to provide a sliver coiler which overcomes this disadvantage by providing a sliver guide channel which has an inlet located in the center of the top of the coiler and leaves the bottom of the coiler in a tangential direction and whose crosssection or flow area increases progressively from the inlet to the outlet, the outlet portion of the guide channel being provided with a steadily decreasing cross section or flow area.
- FIGURE 1 is a section through the sliver coiler take along the line II of FIGURE 2;
- FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the coiler
- FIGURE 3 is a section along the centre line of the sliver guide channel represented as rolled out.
- a coiler 1 for depositing slivers in cans consists essentially of an upper portion 3 which contains a centrally arranged sliver inlet 2., and to which a lower portion 4 of larger diameter is attached by a web 5. Between the upper portion 3 and the lower portion 4 is a curved sliver guide channel 6 which ends substantially tangentially of the coiler, forming an outlet 7 near the periphery of the lower portion 4, at the lower surface thereof. As shown in FIGURE 3, the cross-section or flow area of channel 6 widens out continuously from the inlet to a line AB and diminishes steadily in the following zone, immediately before or in the outlet portion of the channel, preferably conically.
- a coiler for helically depositing sliver as used in preparatory spinning machines comprising:
- a rotatable coiling means defining a guide channel for the sliver
- said guide channel including an inlet substantially disposed at the rotation axis of said coiling means and an outlet portion disposed at a predetermined radial distance from said axis,
- outlet of said outlet portion is in a plane normal to the rotation axis of the coiler and has an elongated, substantially elliptical configuration, the long axis of the ellipse being curved, and the curvature of said long axis being substantially a continuation of the curvature of said guide channel.
- a coiler for helically depositing sliver as used in preparatory spinning machines comprising:
- a rotatable coiling means including a guide channel for the sliver
- said guide channel having an inlet substantially placed at the rotation axis of said coiling means
- said coiling means having a circular peripheral portion coaxial of the rotation axis of said coiling means and axially spaced from said inlet and disposed at a predetermined radial distance from said rotation axis, said guide channel having an outlet portion placed tangentially adjacent said peripheral portion, said guide channel from said inlet to and including said outlet portion being continuously and unidirectionally curved,
- said guide channel widening continuously from said inlet to said outlet portion and the cross section of the outlet portion of said channel decreasing continuously in the direction of travel of the sliver.
