DANIEL H. GRANT, OF RAYMORE, MISSOURI.
"HAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,176, dated September 16, 1884.
Application filed June 24, 1884.
To alZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL H. GRANT, of Raymore, in the county of (ass and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a hame adapted to be adjusted edgewise; and the invention consists, principally, of a hame made in sections arranged to be adjusted edgewise to a greater or less curve to suit the collar and the shape of the horses neck.
The invention consists, also, of the particuview of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional front elevation of the hame, taken on the line x 00 of Fig. 2, the clamp-plate being removed; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional elevation taken on line y y of Fig. 2.
My new hame is composed of the upper sec tion, A, central section, B, and lower section, 0. The sections Aand C arejointed by tongueand-groove joints to the ends of the central section, B, and hinged upon the pins (1 a, and the said sections A and O are adapted to be adjusted edgewise with relation to the central section, B, to increase or diminish or vary the curve of the hame by means of the wormscrews D D,which are fitted between the cheekpieces a c of the said sections A and O, and work in the segmental worms 1) -b, formed at the edges of the tongues d-d of the central section, B, as shown in Fig. 3. The central section, B, is suitably recessed at its outer surface, as shown at F, to receive the clamp-plate E, which holds the loop or staple G, to which (No model.)
the hame-tug of the harness is attached. The ends of the staple G are bent to form small hooks, as shown at e c, and the small holes i i are made in the section B to receive the said hooks, and corresponding grooves, i i, are
formed in the adjacent faces of the section B and the clamp-plate E, so that when the loop or staple G and plate E are put in place and held by the screw H the staple will be securely held and a nice joint formed between the section B and the plate E.
Constructed in the manner described, by simply turning the worm-screws D, the hame may be given a greater or less curve, as required to fit the particular collar with which it is to be used or the shape of the horses neck, and by removing the plate E the staple G may be raised or lowered to vary the draft, and the staple may be secured again by replacing the plate E, so that the hame is adapted to all the adjustments required, and is very practical for its purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A hame composed of the sectionsA B 0, adj ustably connected together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The central section, B, formed with the segmental worms Z) Z), in combination with the sections A G and the worm-screws D D, arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
3. The removable clamp-plate E, let into a recess in one hame-section, B, and with its inner longitudinal surface provided with chan-
