Description
Aug. 7, 1962 J. KEMMER CLOSURE FRAME FOR HAND BAGS AND THE LIKE Filed May 19, 1960 United States Patent 3,048,209 CLQSURE FRAME FOR HAND BAGS AND THE LHQE Jakob Kemmer, Qifenbaeh (Main), Germany, assrgnor to Mosbach, Gruber dz (10., GmbI-L, (Bifenhach (Mam), Germany Filed May 19, 1960, Ser. No. 30,293 Claims priority, application Germany June 5, 1959 3 Claims. (Cl. 150-49) This invention relates to a closing frame for ladies hand bags,.pouches, wallets, purses and the like articles, and more particularly to such in which the material of these articles, which may be leather, textile, plastic, or the like is attached to the top member of the closing frame of the bag only.
An object of the invention consists in the provision of an improved closing frame of the said type in which the fitting of the bag material to the top frame thereof can be carried out in a manner which will speed up production and thus save time and costs in the manufacture of the bag.
Another object of the invention is a further saving of costs by providing a closing framefor the said purpose to which the bag material can be fitted by unskilled operators without the employment of some or all of the tools hitherto used, such as the various kinds of pliers or other hand or mechanical implements.
A further object is the provision of a simplified construction of the closing frame which Will be easier to handle than the more elaborate frames commonly in use. The new frame, for that reason, will also tend to reduce the cost of manufacture of the bag still further.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the provision of a closing frame of particularly simple design in which clamping members of substantially U-shaped design are provided as a means for fixing the bag material to the top member of the frame.
Another feature of the invention rests in the attachment of the closure fastener of the bag on the said clamping members one to each side of the frame.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention by way of example. In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a frame for a ladies hand bag in accordance with the invention prior to the application of the bag material thereto.
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the frame shown in FIG. 1 with the clamping members and the bag material in cross section.
FIG. 3 is a front elevation of the frame and FIG. 4 a side elevation thereof.
FIG. 5 is a front view of the clamping members, and
FIG. 6 a side view thereof.
As shown in the drawings the new bag closing frame is composed of two similar parts hinged to each other,
I and two closure fasteners.
fatented Aug. 7, 1962 U-shaped cross section extending over the full length of the top members 4 and 5.
The bag material, for instance leather, plastic, textile or other, is fastened to the clamps 6 and 7 by being folded over the edges of the top members and then clamped between them and the clamping members 6 and 7 respectively (FIG. 2).
The members 9 and 10 of the closure fastener are preferably fixed to the clamping rails 6 and 7 so as to cooperate with each other in the usual or any other manner.
When assembling a bag, pouch or the like in accordance with the invention, the pushing of the clamping rails 6 and 7 with the, bag material 8 applied thereto over the top pieces dand 5 of the frame is all which is required.
It is to be understood that the invention is not intended to be limited to the example shown and described, but that it may be varied in any way to suit convenience or requirements within the scope and meaning of the now following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A closing frame for ladies hand bags, pouches, purses and the like having two half frames each consisting of two side members and a substantially straight top member connecting said side members, the lower ends of the side members of one half frame being pivoted to the lower ends of the side members of the other half frame, a bag member of flexible material having its upper open end folded over said top members of each half frame, a pair of clamping members of channel-like cross section one clasped over and clamped on each of said half frame top members with said folded bag portion between said top members and said clamping members, thereby fixing said bag member to said half frame excluding any other fixing means.
2. A closing frame for ladies hand bags, pouches, purses and the like-having two half frames each consisting of two side members havin outwardly set off top ends connected by a substantially straight top member, the lower ends of said side members of one half frame being pivoted to the lower ends of the side members of said other half frame, a bag member of flexible material having its upper open end folded over said outwardly set off top members of each half frame, a pair of clamping members of channel-like cross section one clasped over and clamped on each of said half frame top members with said folded bag portion between said top members and said clamping members, thereby fixing said bag member to said half frame excluding any other fixing means, said offset being dimensioned so that the inner surfaces of said side members of each half frame and the inner surface of said clamping member are lying in a substantially common plane.
3. A closing frame according to claim 2, in which closure fasteners are provided one on each of said clamping members.
