Abstract

774,054. Closing bags : parcel carriers. BAYETTO, A. June 16, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 17392/55. Class 94(1) and 133. [Also in Groups VI and XXV] A strap comprises a flexible strip 1 of rectangular cross section having an eye 2 with a rectangular opening, at one end and a grip member 3 serving as an abutment at the other end, the strap being adapted to be secured round an object by folding the end having the grip member about a transverse line and passing the fold through the eye opening, the portion 4 of the strip adjacent the eye being thicker than the remainder of the strip to retain the fold in the eye and being connected to it by a portion 5 of tapering thickness for ease of engagement with the eye. The device is intended for closing the mouth of bags, for tying bunches of flowers and bundles of rod shape articles, for use as a belt, for ligaturing haemorrhages and for like purposes. The strip may have a portion of reduced thickness where it is to be folded, to make the folding easy and to ease the engagement with the eye. Adjacent the eye it may be provided with a pair of lugs by which the device can be connected to an article such as a bag. As shown the strip is provided with a plurality of transverse teeth 6 to help to retain the fold in the eye but in a modification these can be omitted and similar teeth can be provided in the side of the opening in the eye adjacent the strip. In a further modification the strip can have longitudinal ribs and the eye can be provided with similarly shaped grooves on its edge nearest the strip. The eye and the portion of the strap which is intended to be folded can be made separately from the remainder and connected to it by a metal loop. The grip member 3 can be formed to take a label and the thickened portion 4 can be provided with a spring catch 9 adjacent the tapering portion 5 to retain the fold in the eye. The device can be made of an elastic material such as a synthetic resin or of metal. The loop which projects beyond the eye 2 can be used for carrying purposes.
