PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. BISHOP, OF JACKSON, TENNESSEE.
GARTER R SLEEVE HOLDER.
Application filed January 4,1923. Serial No. 610,649.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN L. BISHOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Madison and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garters or Sleeve Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments, and
especially to a combined garter and arm band.
The invention contemplates the provision of a device of this character wherein the ob jectionable features inherent in what are known as round garters and caused by the employment of elastic tape or webbing will be eliminated, and has for its object the pro vision of an improved and novel type of garter and arm band made from an endless band of practically inelastic material bodying the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and will specifically point the same out in. the appended claims.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the knot loosened to show its formation.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the use of the device as a garter, and
Fig. 4, is aview showing the use of the device as an arm band.
The invention comprises an endless band 10 of any suitable material of substantially inelastic character such as tape, ribbon or the like, and the material employed may be made from cotton. linen. silk or other types of fabric and may be plain or ornamented in accordance with the desire of the user. A slip knot is formed in this endless band by forming a half hitch 11 in one side of the band, and then doubling the opposite side and tucking the doubled portion 12 through the half hitch which produces a knot like that shown, one side of the doubled portion being freely movable through the knot.
As shown in Fig. 3, a tie cord 13 is emtively with the loops or eyes 15 fixed in spaced relation on the band 10.
The device is applied by enlarging the loop formed by the doubled portion 12, this being accomplished by slipping one side through the knot, and placing the same in position on the limb. It is then drawn tight. The loose part can then be fastened to the loop portion by suitable means as by passing the tie cord 13 through this loop part and engaging its hook in an appropriate eye on the encircling portion 10.
I claim:
1. A garter consisting of an endless bane of substantially inelastic material and hav ing a slip knot formed therein and located to leave a closed portion of the bandat each side of said slip knot, and means pass ing through one portion for securing it to the other portion.
2. A garter consisting of an endless band of substantially inelastic material and having a slip knot formed therein and located to leave a closed portion of the band at each side of said slip knot, a tie cord adapt ed'to pass through one band portion having one end secured to the other band portion and provided on its free end with a fastening means, and cooperating fastening means secured to said other band portion for engagement by the first mentioned fas-' tening means.
3. A garter formed from an endless band of substantially inelastic material, the material at one part of the band being brought over the adjacent part to form a half hitch, the material of the endless-band at the part substantially opposite the half hitch being doubled and tucked through the half hitch whereby to form a slip knot, a tie cord having one end secured to the material of the endless band on one side of the slip knot, and provided on its other end with a fastening means, and cooperating fastening means secured to the endless band at another point thereof for engagement by the first mentioned fastening means.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN L. BISHOP.
