Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. FELTMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the City or" New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in garment supporting devices, being directed' specifically to hosesupporters or garters, means having been provided whereby a limb-encircling band, or garter, is detachably secured to the portion of the supporter engaging the hose or other garment to be supported, and may be easily adjusted relatively. thereto and automatically held in position after such adjustment.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Figure 1 shows in elevation a garment supporter, or garter embodying my inven tion; and
Fig. 2 shows a modification thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a plate of metal or other suitable material, the lower end of said member being provided with an rip-turned toothed portion 2 adapted to engage the hose or other garment to be supported. Adjacent the upper end or" the member 1, .two slots 3 and 4 are provided for receiving the ends of a limb-encircling band, or garter 5, detachably secured to the member 1, the ends of this band being insertible through the slots 3 and 4, as shown in the drawings.
The member 1' is a rigid member to the extent that the walls of the slots?) and 4 are rigid and the upper portion of each slot is provided with teeth 6 adapted to engage the band 5 to hold the same in adjusted position when the garment supporter is in use. The lower portion of each slot, however, is free of teeth to permit the band 5 to be drawn in either direction through the slots to the desired position. It will be obvious that when first applied the band 5 will be in the lower portion of the slots 3 and 4 and may be pulled in either direction through said slots to the desired position to suit the user, the band, however, af-
ter adjustment and when placed under tension due to the lower end of the member 1 engaging the garment to be supported, automatically moving upwardly in the slots 3 and 4 until engaged by tne teeth 6, after which the band will be securely held in position.
In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 2 the member 7 which corresponds to the member 1 of Fig. 1, is provided at its lower end with an upturned portion 8 adapted to engage the garment to be supported and at the other end with inclined slots 9. In this instance a band corresponding to the band 5 of Fig. 1 is adapted to be threaded through said slots in the bottom of which it is freely movable. It will be apparent, however, that when the article is in use and the portion 8 is in engagement with the garment to. be supported the limb-encircling band being placed under tension will automatically move to the upper part of the slots 9 to be gripped and frictionally held thereby.
Obviously various changes may be made in the details of the structure herein illustrated and described within the purview of my invention.

A garment supporter comprising a member adapted to engage and hold the garment to be supported, said member being provided with a garter-receiving slot, a portion of said slot being provided with teeth for holding the garter in adjusted position, the remaining portion or" the slot being free of teeth whereby the garter may be adjusted in either'direction in said slot. garment supporter comprising a plate adapted to engage and hold the garment to be supported, said plate having a slot at one enc thereof for receiving a garter, a portion of said slot being provided with teeth for holding the garter in ad justed position after the garter has been adjusted in the remaining portion of the slot. 7
