GEORGE N. BUCK, OF MATTOON, ILLINOIS.
SKIRT AND STOCKING SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 30 L070, dated August 26, 188%.
Application filed December 3, 1883.
T0 LtZZ whom may concern Be it known that I, G-nonen X. Boon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mattoon, in the county of Goles and State of Illinois, have invented a new an d useful Improvement in Skirt and Stocking Supporters, which improvement is full y set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a skirt and stocking supporter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a supporter for a skirt and stockings formed of two straps adapted to extend over the wearers shoulders, crossed behind with a loop, which allows of independent longitudinal play of the straps, said straps being attached together at each side at or near the ends, and provided below said ends with tabs for supporting a skirt and with larger tabs for supporting stockings, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent two straps, which are passed over the shoulders of the wearer, crossed on the back, and united at their lower ends at the sides, near the waist. The straps are continued downwardly from their lower ends, crossing the place of junction, and forming tabs B Band to said ends are also attached tabs 0 G. If desired, the tabs B B may be pieces or straps separate from the straps A and secured thereto in any desirable manner. Itwill be seen that the tabs B are adapted to be attached to the waistband of a skirt or pair of pants, 850., and the tabs 0 are adapted to be attached to the stockings, it being evident that the tabs may be formed with button-holes or provided with clips or other fastenin gs for their respect- (No model.)
ive purposes. As the weight of the skirt, &c., and stockings is transferred to the shoulders of the wearer, said garments are worn with comfort and ease, the waist and hips being relieved and garters avoided.
In order to retain the back portions of the straps in proper position, one of the straps is formed with a loop, D, at the place of crossing and the other strap is passed through the same, thus preserving the. angle of the straps at the back and permitting sufficient freedom of motion of the straps thereat due to the movements of the body. The upper and lower walls of the loop D extend in diagonal directions, thus serving to retain the two straps in their crossed positions.
It is also evident that the device may serve as a shoulder-brace for well-known purposes, and the front straps may be prevented from separation by a cross strap or piece, E, connected with the same.
The several straps are made of any suitable fabric.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The skirt or stocking supporter comprising the two straps adapted to extend over the wearers shoulders, crossed behind'through a loop formed on one of the straps, which allows independent longitudinal play of the straps, said straps being attached together at their lower ends, and provided below the point of attachment with tabs for supporting a skirt, and with additional tabs of greater length for supporting stockings, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
