2 Claims. (Cl. 128-533) This invention relates to girdles formed from all-way stretch material and, particularly, girdles of this type and kind wherein the sides of the waistband portions of the girdles include groups of depending reinforcing and positioning fingers or members for adding strength to the waistband portion and, further, to aid in maintaining positioning of the girdle upon the body of the wearer.v
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic front view of a girdle arranged in flat position and illustrating my improved reinforcements at sides of the waistband portion thereof.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the upper portion of the girdle with the girdle arranged in a flat condition and illustrating the reinforcements as appearing on each side of the garment; and
FIG. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
My improved girdle can be fashioned from any type and kind of all-way stretch material. However, in the accompanying drawing, I have diagrammatically illus trated the formation of a garment of this type and kind from latex and formed in any of the known processes.
In FIG. 1, it will appear that the body portion of the girdle includes, at its lower edge, integral depending garter supporting elements 11 suitably positioned at the front and rear of the garment, the front of the garment only being shown, in that the illustration in FIG. 1 represents the garment in its flat state with the front and back arranged one upon the other.
The waistband portion 12 of the garment includes, at its side edge portions, groups of depending reinforcing and positioning fingers or members, comprising, at each side, a central finger or member 13 and a forward angularly directed finger or member 14 and a rearwardly directed finger or member 15, only one of which is illustrated in FIG. 2 of the drawing, it being understood, however, that both sides of the waistband portion are of identical construction. The fingers or members 14, 15 are arranged angularly with respect to the fingers or members 13, as will clearly appear from a consideration of FIG. 2 of the drawing, and these fingers or members are formed by building-up the latex material to provide a greater thickness of the material where the fingers or members are formed, as will clearly appear from a consideration of FIG. 3 of the drawing. In this connection, it will be understood that the illustration in FIG. 3 of the drawing is diagrammatic for clarity in the showing. It will appear that the prevailing thickness of the body portion of the garment, as a whole, prevails between adjacent members 13, 14 and 13, 15, as at 16, thus providing free flexure of the waistband portion between said members, the fiexure at the position 16 being naturally greater than in the body portions of the members 13, 14 and 15. It will also appear, from a consideration of FIG. 3 of the drawing, that the inner surface of the entire girdle has a flock facing, as diagrammatically indicated at 17, this flock being composed of any suitable material to provide a protective coating between the latex material of the garment and the body of the wearer and, further, facilitating application and removal of the girdle with respect to the body of the wearer.
By the arrangement of the fingers or members 13, 14 and 15 at the side edge portions of the garment, the waistband of the garment becomes reinforced and these members, by reason of the relationship to each other, further aid in maintaining the positioning of the garment upon the body of the wearer in the use thereof. It will appear, from a consideration of FIG. 2 of the drawing, that the members 14 and 15 extend onto the garment a greater degree than do the members 13 and, by virtue of the angular relationship of the members, a greater degree of elasticity is provided at the sections or areas 18 noted in FIG. 2 of the drawing.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
1. A girdle comprising a body portion of all-way stretch material, the waistband portion of the girdle having at opposed sides thereof groups of angularly arranged yieldable reinforcing members of greater thickness than the body portion of the girdle, said members projecting from the outer surface of the body portion, one member in each group extending downwardly at the side of the body portion, another member in each group extending angularly to the first member onto the rear of the body portion, a third member in each group extending angularly to the first member onto the front of the body portion, all of said members extending from the edge of the waistband onto the body portion, the ends of said members at said edge being closer to each other than the other inner ends thereof, adjacent members being spaced apart by the waistband portion of the girdle in providing free yieldable movement of the members one with respect to the other, and the yieldable movement of the members in each group one with respect to the other at the inner ends of said members being greater than at the waistband edge.
2. A girdle comprising a body portion of all-way stretch material, the waistband portion of the girdle having at opposed sides thereof groups of angularly arranged yieldable reinforcing members of greater thickness than the body portion of the girdle, said members projecting from the outer surface of the body portion, one member in each group extending downwardly at the side of the body portion, another member in each group extending angularly to the first member onto the rear of the body portion, a third member in each group extending angularly to the first member onto the front of the body portion, all of said members extending from the edge of the waistband onto the body portion, the ends of said members at said edge being closer to each other than the other inner ends thereof, adjacent members being spaced apart by the waistband portion of the girdle in providing free yieldable movement of the members one with respect to the other, the yieldable movement of the members in each group one with respect to the other at the inner ends of said members being greater than at the waistband v,
edge, and the second and third named members in each group being longer than the first named members to extend the reinforcement 21 greater distance onto the rear and front of the body portion.
