Description

W. M. STEPPAOHER.
SHIRT.
No. 300,655. Patented June 17, 1884.
INVENTOR:
WITNESSES:
TTORNEY.
UNITED STATES ATENT nFicE.
-WALTER M. STEPPAOHER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,655, dated June 17, 188 4.
Applioation filed December '7, 1883. (No model.)
To alt whom it may concern Be itknown that LWALTER MSTEPPAOHER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Shirts, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a shirt embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a front view of a detached portion.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists in providing a bicycle or other shirt with a series of independent buttoningtabs, whereby the weight of the shirt is reduced, there is saving in material, and the buttoning is easily accomplished.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a bicycle clubor other shirt, which is open in front, and provided with lacings a, which may. however, be omitted. On the inner side of the front closing-flap'B are buttoning-tabs C, and on the onter'face of the portion B are the buttons 0 therefor. The tabs 0 are disconnected from or independent of each other, and each tab is stitched to the flap B at the bottom, as at b, and inner end, as at 0, thus leaving the top (1 and outer end, 0, disconnected. The tabs may, however, be stitched at the top, thus leaving the bot-tom free. It will be seen and provision is made for inserting the finger between the tab and flap at the outer corner of the tab, and conveniently performing the buttoning and unbuttoning operations. Furthermore, the tabs, being formed ofseparate pieces, effect a saving over a single tab having button-holes for the several buttons, thus decreasing the weight and expense of the shirt, and obviating bagging of the front flap and gathering of the same between the buttons, thecon struetion of said tabs being hereinafter fully set forth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A shirt having a closing-flap provided with a series of bottoming-tabs independent of each other, each of said tabs being secured to the flap along two of its sides, leaving the outer corner disconnected, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A shirt having a closing-flap provided with a series of buttoning-tabs independent of each other, each tab being secured to the flap in such manner that its outer corner is left disconnected from the flap, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
