Description

(No Model.)
P. H. HIGGINS. NEOKTIB FASTENER.
Patented May 20, 1884.
Attorney/3 N PETERS, Phom-Lmmgnpher. Wgungton, D. C
PETER HENRY HIGGIN S, OF MERCED, CALIFORNIA.
NECKTI E=FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,752, dated May 20, 188:4..
Application filed March 5,1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
.Be it known that I, PETER H. HIGGINs, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Merced, in the county of Merced and State of California, have invented a new and useful Necktie- Fastener, of which the following is a specifica-4 fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
Figure l is a view in perspective from the rear side of the necktie, showing the fabric secured to the fastening-plate. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastening-plate detached, and Fig. 3 is a view showing a plate the outline of which differs from the outlines of the plates shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, a designates the body of the fastening-plate, which is preferably made of sheet metal of the outline shown in Figs. l and 2, although it may be made rectangular in shape or in any other convenient shape, and may be made of other material than sheet meta-l. The
attaching arms or hooks b b are made integral with the plate a, and extend from its upper curved orA straight edge, as the case may be,
and are bent first rearwardly and then downwardly, their oblique directions in the blank causing them, when bent down, to extend obliquely outward, asV shown. Near the edges the plate a is provided with the perforations c, through which the stitches are made in sewing the fabric onto the plate. When worn, the arms b b pass down over the edge of the collar and between the neckband and the collar, one arm b being on each side of the collarbutton.
This necktie-fastener is easily adjusted to place, and when once in position cannot fall off or become disarranged unless considerable force is used to accomplish either the displacement or the disarrangement. Besides, it possesses simplicity, eheapness, durability, and general efficiency.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a necktie-fastener, the platea, of suitable' outline, having at its upper edge the integral arms b b, bent rearwardly, downwardly, and inwardly, and extending obliquely outward toward the ends of the plate, substantially as specified.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER HENRY HIGGINS.
