Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
PHINEAS BISWICK, OF TEGUMSEI-I, MICHIGAN.
SHAFT-TUG.
SPECIFICA-MoN forming part of Letters YPatent No. 297,727, dated April 29, 1884.
Application filed February 23, 1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHINEAS B. SWICK, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Te arrangement of the same, as will be hereinaf ter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in
which Figure 1 represents avertical sectional view of my shaft-tug. Fig. 2 is a face View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a face view of the tug unlooped. 1
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the tug, which consists of a single strap, the upper portion, a, of which is broad and the lower portion narrow, as shown at b. The upper portion, a', is provided with a buckle, c, that connects with the strap of a harness-saddle, and the strap b buckles to the shaft-girth ofthe harness. The broad portion a is provided with a transverse s slot, d, and below which and on the outer face of the tugstrap is secured by rivets a metal plate, B, at each end of which are formedloops e on the ends of themetal plate aforesaid, thus forming a tug lor a loop, f, through which the shaft ofthe vehicle is passed and supported.
It will thus loe observed from the above de-k scription that the tighter the girth is drawn the more firmly will the tug secure itself' to the shaft, thus holding it securely, and should the breeching break", the vehicle could not run on 'the animal, and if a trace should break, or likewise a single-tree, the animal could not become disengaged` from the shafts, and the metal plate, with its end loop, serves to prevent'the shafts or thills from vertical movement, as would be the case otherwise; and a shaft-tug constructed as herein shown and described is durable, neat in` appearance, easily operated, and at the Sametime cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The improved shaft-tug herein described, consisting of the single strap A, having the broad loop portion a, narrow strap portion b,
, thc transverse slot d, and the buckle c, and provided with the plate B, secured on the outer face of the loop portion, having end loops, e e, to receive the strap b after the latter is passed through the slot d in forming the shaftloop f, thewhole constructed and arranged as shown, described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PHINEAS B. ,SWICIL lWitnesses:
