Be it known that we, CHARLES ALLEN and WILLIAM E. DUBBs, citizens of the United States, residing at Peru, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness, and we do vhereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a-part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. f

Our invention relates to harness, and has for its object to provide a simple connection between the saddle and girth or belly-band, together with the necessary thill-loops.

To-this end it consists in the novel constructions hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of harness back-strap or saddle and belly-band.

The girth A is provided near its oppositel ends with short straps B, having keepers b, and to which is secured the tongue-end crossbar of the buckle C. This buckle has the tongue D pivoted at one end to the cross-bar, to strap B, and the point of said tongue bears on cross-bar d, and extends between the side bars of the buckle at a point approximately midway the ends of the buckle, as shown. It will be seen that the buckleloop is extended in advance of the point of the tongue, and a suitable cross-bar, d, is provided as a bearing for the point of said tongue, as clearly shown. Ve call this extension in advance of the tongue the forward end or loop of the buckle. The thill -loops F are secured at one end in the forward end or extension of the buckles, and are looped around the thills G, and provided with suitable buckles, so they may be readily lengthcned or shortened when desired. The backstrap or saddle I-I is provided with the loops 7i, passed around the thills G. The connecting-straps I are secured at one end to the saddle, and have their free ends carried down under cross-bar el and engaged by the tongue D of buckle G.

By the construction and arrangement shown it will be seen that we Inake the single buckle C serve for the connection of thill-loops F and for the connecting-straps I'between the backstrap or saddle and the girth,and dispense with the additional buckles usually employed in forming such connections. At the same time we provide a simple construction, which can be cheaply made, and is neat and ornamental, as will be appreciated from the drawings. The girth, with the attachments described, can be conveniently used with any of the wellknown saddles or back-bands in common use. Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Ihe girth or belly-band provided near its ends with the buckles, having loops extended in advance of the points ofthe tongues,-

and having the thill-loops secured at one end p in the extended loops of said buckles, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

2. The combination of the girth, the buckles secured near the opposite ends of same, and provided with loops extended in advance of the bearing-points of the tongues, the thillloops secured at one end in said extended loops, the back-band or saddle, and the connectingstraps secured at one endl to the back-band, having their opposite ends held by the buckles on the girth, substantially as set forth.
