- a change in the polarity of the motor effected a change in the spindle drive through actuation of the transmission gear.
- Complicated synchronizing apparatus was employed to insure exact timing in the changing of the polarity of the motor in order to avoid a clash of the mechanical elements in the transmission.
- the present invention obviates these difiiculties by eliminating the gear transmission and substituting a pivotally mounted vertical arm which controls a horizontally mounted bell crank lever.
- the bell crank lever actuates and controls a double acting or pole reversing switch which controls the direction of rotation of the main drive shaft motor.

- An idler drum 4' is fixed to shaft 4A. Shafts 3A, 4A, and drums 4, 4' extend the full length of the machine.
- Spindle bearings 6, 6 are rotatively mounted in the machine frame in a manner well known in the art. A plurality of spindle bearings 6, 6' are provided. An idler drum 5A is rotatively mounted in the machine frame. An endless tape or belt 5 is passed over idler drum 5A, contacting drums 4, 4' on opposite sides and then passing over drums 4, 4 engages spindle bearings 6, 6 to drive spindle bearings 6, 6' through drive drum 4. This mechanism is old in the art.
- a stub shaft 7A is fixed in the head end of the machine frame.
- a gear 7 rotatively mounted on stub shaft 7A engages and is driven by spur gear 2.
- An arm 10 is pivotally mounted on stub shaft 7A. Arm 10 is provided with a shaft 10A. An intermediate gear 8 and a pinion gear 9 are fixed to shaft 10A. Arm 10 is also provided with a cam follower 10.
- a bell crank lever 20 pivotally mounted in the head end of the machine frame at 21 is provided with a short arm 22 and two cam surfaces 25 and 26 which are engaged in timed relation by cam follower 10'.
- a pole reversing switch 24 fixed to the head end of the machine frame is provided with a push button 23 under control of short arm 22.
- Figures 1 and 2 depict spinning and twisting frames which are double sided and in which a single shaft provides a common drive for both sides of the frame.
- Two delivery roll shafts 14A and 14b are rotatively mounted in opposite sides of the machine frame. Gears 14 and 14' are fixed to delivery roll shafts 14A and 14b respectively. Shaft 11A is fixed in one side of the machine frame. Shaft 11b is fixed in the other side of the machine frame. Shafts 12a and 12b are rotatively mounted in the machine frame.
- a gear 11 is rotatively mounted on shaft 11A.
- a gear 15 is rotatibely mounted on shaft 11b. Gears 11 and 15 are in constant engagement.
- Two gears 12' and 13 are fixed to shaft 12b.
- Gear 12' meshes with gear 11 while gear 13 meshes with gear 14.
- Gear 12 meshes with gear 15 while gear 13 meshes with gear 14.
- Gear 9 alternately meshes with gear 11 or 15 so as to drive delivery roll gears 14 and 14' in the same direction regardless of the direction of rotation of shaft 1 and gear 2.
- pole reversing switch 24 is electrically connected to the electric motor (not shown) which drives main drive shaft 1.
- main drive shaft 1 and spur gear 2 rotate in the direction of the arrow.
- Gear 3 meshing with spur gear 2 will cause drum 4to rotate in the direction of the arrow on drum 4.

- the shaft 12b common to gears 12' and 13 allows gear 12 to drive gear 13' which meshes with gear 14' to drive gear 14' in the direction of the arrow on gear 14.
