Abstract

545,791. Driving arrangements &c. for spinning &c, frames. CLARK THREAD CO. Feb. 22, 1941, No. 2422. Convention date, March 14, 1940. [Class 120 (ii)] In a spinning or twisting machine comprising a plurality of spindles carried on rails at each side of the frame and each adapted to have a bobbin of thread formed thereon each spindle is driven by a separate motor and all the spindles are normally directly geared together and to all the drawing rollers so that the rollers are positively driven and the speed of all the spindles is synchronised with that of all the rollers to ensure uniform twist in the thread at all times; the spindles may be geared to a common shaft geared to the rollers and any one spindle may be disconnected from its motor or from the shaft. As shown the spindles are lifted during the winding of bobbins 4 carried thereby and the yarn from the drawing rollers 15, 16 passes to a bobbin from a traveller 7 mounted on a cap ring 5 driven by an electric motor 12, 13 and carried by a sleeve surrounding the spindle 9 which is driven by a motor 10, 11. Each spindle in a line is geared by a worm 17 to a worm wheel 18 loose on a shaft 19 serving the line of spindles and each wheel 18 can be clutched to the shaft by a yoke 75 actuated from a hand lever 77. The two shafts 19 are geared together by pinions 20, 21 and the pinion 20 gears with a pinion 32 which may gear with a pinion 22 directly or through an idler pinion 36, the pinion 22 being carried by a shaft 23 carrying a bevel gear 24 gearing with a bevel gear on a vertical shaft 25 geared to the driving gear for the drawing rollers; the pinion 32 is carried by a bell-crank lever 33 mounted on the shafts 19 carrying the pinion 20 so that it may be moved into or out of gear with the pinion 22 according to the direction of rotation of the spindles and the pinion 36 is carried by a bell crank lever mounted on the shaft of the pinion 32 and adjustably connected to the lever 33. When the lever 77 is moved to declutch a spindle from the shaft 19 it moves a link 78 which actuates a switch to stop the motors of the spindle and ring and when the handle is actuated to start a spindle it is first moved halfway to the "on" position so that the motors are started before the handle is moved to the "on" position to clutch the spindle to the shaft 19. The spindles are rotatably supported in rails 60 carrying pinions 62 normally held against rotation thereon and engaging racks 58 connected at their lower ends to a lever 55 on a shaft 54 which is rocked from a cam on the shaft 46 driven by worm gearing from the shaft 23 to raise and lower the racks and consequently the spindles at the two sides of the frame as winding up proceeds. The pinion 62 is mounted on a short shaft connected by bevel gearing to a gear 63 rotatably mounted in the rail 60 and geared to a pinion 65 rotatably mounted on a fixed part of the frame by a gear 64 carried by a shaft 66 supported by links 67, 68 and by rotating the shaft 69 carrying the pinion 65 the pinion 62 may be rotated by causing the rail 60 to be moved upwards so that the bobbin may be removed. Specification 18047/03, [Class 120], is referred to.
