Mules; driving-arrangements.-The tin-rollers D of spinning, doubling, and twisting machines are driven from a crankshaft E through gears e at the outer end of the tin-roller, so that the direction and rate of the rotation thereof may be varied to suit any particular class of yarn. When the invention is applied to mules the shaft E occupies the position normally occupied by the tin-roller, which is moved nearer to the centre of the carriage as shown. The winding-on motion is connected to the shaft E so that the winding speed is varied by changing the gears e. Uneven yarn caused by the rim pulley not being the correct size may be eliminated by adjusting the ratio of the gears e. In ring or like frames the tin roller is raised and the countershaft mounted below it, the drive being imparted to the countershaft at the headstock end of the frame and the gearing to the tin-roller shaft arranged at the other end.
