Description

c. F. RICHTER.
Shovel Plow.
Patented June 5,4860:
N.FETER5. PHOTQ-LITNOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
O. F. RICHTER, OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 28,605, dated June 5, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O. F. RICHTER, of (Jolutnbia,in the district of Richland and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l iepresents a perspective view of the plow complete. Fig. 2 represents the foot and brace and the manner of uniting and ad justing the mold-board thereto.
Similar letters of reference, where they occur in the separate figures, denote like parts of the plow in all the drawings.
My invention consists in the manner in which I have arranged the two pieces of metal to serve for the foot-support and for a brace, together with the arrangement for securing them and the mold-board together, so that the latter may be adjusted on said pieces, as will be explained.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings.
A represents the plow-beam; B, a brace or support connected to it; and O C, the handles, braced to B by a rung, D. These parts. may .be of wood.
E is a curved metal piece, which may be called the standard of the plow, and has upon its lower end a foot, F, which serves as sole to run in the bottom of the furrow, and thus steady the plow.
G is a brace bolted to the rear of the beam, and has a reversed-curved form, so as to conform to the curve of the standard E where the mold-board or share H rests against them. This brace extends down to near the shoe F.
()n the back of the mold-board there is a loop or eye, a, through which the brace G passes, and the standard E has a recess, 0, in it, so that it may lie up snug against the brace and loop, and just below this loop a bolt, 0, passes through both the standard and brace to hold up the mold-board, as well as to hold the standard and brace together; or the loop of the mold-board may be placed below the bolt e and at the lower end of the recess 0,- or by making slots through the standard and brace and running the bolt 0 through the loop and through said slots the mold-board or share may be set at any intermediate pointbetween the extreme ends of the recess 0.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction and arrangement of the two pieces E G, the mold-board or share H,
and their several connections for the purpose of uniting them together and allowing the mold-board to be adjusted to the pieces E G,
substantially as herein set forth and explained.
O. F. RICHTER.
