Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMEON T. PEEK, OF PENFIELD, GEORGIA.
IM PROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 26,289, dated November 29, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMEON T. PEEK, of Penlield,in the county of Greene and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my invention. Fig.
2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken in tremely simple and efficient connection is obtained, bolts and rods being avoided, and the share very readily attached to and detached from the foot-bar.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it. 7
A represents the beam of the plow, B the handles, and C a support or brace to the same.
These parts are of usual construction, and therefore do not require a minute description.
D is the foot-bar, constructed of metal, and of curved form, as shown clearly in Fig. 1. This foot-bar may be attached to the beam in any proper way. The body or main portion of the foot-bar is of usual construction, but its lower part is different, as shown more particularly in Fig. 3. It will be seen by referring to this figure that a recess or rahbet, a, is formed at the lower end of the foot-bar, and a shoulder, 12, produced thereby. At the upper end of this shoulder, andat each side, there is a lateral projection, c, and on the upper surface of the rabbet there is a pin or teat, d.
E is share, which may be of the form shown in Fig. 4, or other suitable shape. The upper or back end of this share is notched or recessed, as shown at e in Fig. 4, said notch or recess being sutficiently wide to receive the shoulder b, the back ends], of the share at each side of the recess fittingunderneath the projections c c. In the share a hole, 9, is made to receive the pin or teat d.
At the face side of the foot-bar D there is a projection, 71., through which the fulcrum-pin h of a lever, F, passes. This lever F is curved,
corresponding to the curvature of the foot-bar D, and between the upper end of lever F and the foot-bar a curved wedge, G, is interposed, which wedge presses the lower end of the lever firmly on the upper part of the share and;
in connection with the projections c c,preveu ts the same from moving upward from its seat, the pin or teat d, and the fitting of the shoulder 1) in the recess preventing any lateral movement of the share.
By this arrangement a very simple and efli:
cient connection is obtained, all rods and bolts avoided, and one that will admit of a very ready adjustment of the share to the foot-bar. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The manner of attaching the share E to the foot-bar D--to wit, having the back part of the share notched and fittedin a rabbet, a, in i the foot-bar, and receiving the shoulder 11, formed by the rabbet, while the endsfot' the share fit underneath the projections c c, and the lever F is pressed on the outer side of the share by means of the wedge Gsubstantially as shown.
S. T. PEEK.
