MPETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
ROBERT H. BROOKS, OF GREENVILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN- PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 27,099, dated February 14, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT HIRAMBROOKS, of Greenville, in the county of Meriwether and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference thereon marked.
Figure 1 represents a side view of the plow, made of iron, excepting the handles E E and braces J K, which are of wood.
B is the standard and plow-foot in one piece. A is the beam; 0, a curved standard, the upper end of which is turned in the form of a band, through which is inserted the brace J, thus giving support to the handles E E. The lower end of 0 extends to the continuation of A, where it is connected to handles E E and pieces P P by means of screw-bolt G.
D D are curved iron braces attached to each side of beam A and extending to standard 0. They are secured by bolts 8 s s. The holes H H in braces D I) are to regulate, by means of screw-bolt T and holes I 1 I, the position of standard B. It can thus be elevated or depressed for the various depths of plowing.
The standard B is curved and made fiat, as shown at U, in order to fit the mold-board. In the end of foot B the notch X and hole V,
as shown in Fig. 2, are placed for purposes hereinafter described. W is aheel screw, with an arm, a, and point b, as shown in Fig.5. It is adapted to the following use, viz: The point I) is fitted into notch X, the screw W passed through the mold-board O at opening g, also through t'oot B at hole V, and securely fastened by nut 0, thus holding mold-board firmly to its place. Thus by means of the screw W, hole V, and notch X a great variety of mold-boards, arranged with opening y, can be used, adapting this plow to almost every kind of ordinary plowing.
P P are fiat pieces of iron, attached by bolts or rivets to each side of beam A at Q, and, extending back, are connected by screw-bolt G with standard O and handles E E. By this arrangement the opening R in the end of beam A is formed. The standard B passes through the opening R, and by the action of screw-bolt F it is held firmly to its place.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of braces D D 0, holes H O V I, screw-bolt T, pieces P P, opening R, beam A, standard B, hvel-screw W, notch X, and opening g, constructed as herein described, for the purposes set forth.
ROBERT H. BROOKS.
