(Cl. 2-75) i My invention relates to improvements in undergarments, particularly adjustable slips for growing girls, an object of the invention being to provide an adjustable construction in a childs slip by virture of which the garment may be readily fitted to a child at the outset and reiitted from time to time as the child continues to grow.

Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable slip, as aforesaid, constructed to render the same sightly and comfortable in wear in all stages of adjustment thereof, a further object being to provide such a construction in relatively simple, durable and inexpensive form.

More particularly it is an object of my invention to provide a childs slip having shoulder straps attached to the bodice, said slip being constructed with adjustable means to gather the material of the bodice longitudinally and hold it thus gathered along lines laligned with the lower portions of the shoulder straps.

' A further object is to provide in a slip, as aforesaid, additional elastic means, admitting of variation in the girth of the bodice, which means are incorporated at least in the sides of the garment and serve yieldingly to gather the material of the bodice laterally between the longitudinal material-gathering lines of the aforementioned adjustable gathering means.

Other objects of the invention reside in the novel cornbination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter illustrated and/or described.

Fig. 4 is a diagrammatical sectional view taken as on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, the same showing the disposition ofthe elastic gathering band in relation to the draw strings at the waistline of the illustrated garment.

Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 showing an alternative arrangement of the elastic gathering band in relation to the draw strings at the waistline in a modification ofthe illustrated garment.

Fig. 6 is a view similar to Figs. 4 and 5 showing a further alternative disposition of the elastic band material in relation to the draw strings at the waistline of another modification of the illustrated slip.

Reference being had to the drawing, it will be observed that my improved slip includes a bodice A and a skirt B which is attached at its upper portion to the lower portion of said bodice A by lines of stitching x, y the junction between skirt B and bodice A constituting the waistline a of said slip. The slip has two shoulder straps b which are oppositely offset from the medial longitudinal plane extending forwardly and rearwardly of the garment. 22 and 23, respectively. In a slip-over garment of the type illustrated in Figs. l, 2 and 3, the elastic waistband 20 preferably extends around the sides and across the back 13 of the garment. The ends of said elastic band 20 in such case are fixed to the garment, as by the said lines of stitching z applied to the bands 17 of the casing c, at the localities where the corresponding fixed ends 15a of the lower draw ystrings 15 are attached to the front 11 of the garment. This fixing of the ends of the elastic band 20 to the garment is best seen in Fig. 4.

If the garment is of the back-opening type, the elastic waistband 20 will preferably extend around the sides and across the front 11 of the garment, as shown in Fig. 5,.

Normally retracted, the elastic band 20 and, correspondingly, the alternative elastic band sections 20a, hold the material of the garment gathered along the same, such band 20 or band sections 20a yielding to admit of expansion of the gathered material.

In a slip constructed in accordance with my invention and suited for re-iitting to a particular child in the course of her growth, the elastic means yieldingly holding the material of the garment gatheredl laterally will be stretched butlittle, if at all, when the slip is initially put on the child. From the foregoing, it is seen that I have provided a desirable garment construction in simple and inexpensive form which may be readily adjusted to tit a child as the child grows, and which is sightly and comfortable in wear at all times.

Changes in the specific form of the invention, as herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having described thev invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent is:

1. A childs' garment in the form of a slip comprising.

a bodice, a skirt attached at its upper portion to the lower portion of the bodice, the junction between bodice and skirt constituting the waistline of the garment, two shoulder straps oppositely offset sidewise from the medial longitudinal plane of the slip extending forwardly and rearwardly thereof, each shoulder strap having a front portion and a rear portion attached to the upper portion of the bodice at the front and rear thereof, respectively, a .pair of draw strings for each of said portions of each shoulder strap, one draw string of each pair of such strings having a fixed end secured to the upper portion of the bodice, the other draw string of the pair having a fixed end secured to the lower portion of the bodice, the fixed ends of both draw strings of each pair of such strings being disposed in line with their respective portion of their respective shoulder strap, the loose ends of the draw strings of each pair of such strings meeting for tying intermediately'of said upper and lower portions of said bodice, guide means on the bodice for said draw strings, the said" draw strings serving to gather the material of the bodice longitudinally of the garment, the bodice having elastic gatheringmeans incorporated in each side portion thereof at the waistline of the garment between the front` and rear draw strings at. the corresponding side of the garment, said elastic gathering means yieldingly gathering the material of such side portion of the bodice laterally of the garment.

2. A childs garment in the form of a slip comprising a bodice, a skirt attached at its upper portion to the lower portion of the-bodice, two shoulder straps oppositely oliset sidewise of the garment from the longitudinal medial plane thereof, each shoulder strap having a front portion and a; rear portion attached to the upper portion of the bodice-at. the front and rear thereof, respectively, said bodice having a set of manually adjustable coacting gathf ering elements thereon for each of said portions of each shoulder strap, the elements of each set extending longi-y tudinally in alignment with each other and being disposedirr linewith their respective portion ot their respective shoulder strapv and coasting to hold the material of the bodice variably gathered longitudinally of the garment in selected degree according to the manual adjustments made in' said sets of coacting elements, thereby variably to tix the overall length of the garment from the upper edge of the. bodice to the hem of the skirt, the bodice having elastic gathering means incorporated in each side portion thereof between the front and rear sets of manually adjustable gathering elements at the corresponding sideof the garment, said elastic gathering means yieldingly gathering the material of such side portion of the bodice laterally ofthe garment.
