Description

(No Model.)
W L McDOWELL STOVE PLATE AND FRAME VFASTENER.
Patented July 10, 1883.

A RNEY.
UNITED STATES PAT NT OFFICE.
I W'ILLIAM L. MGDOWVELL, OF LOWVER MERION, PENNSYLVANIA.
STOVE PLATE AND FRAME FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,096, dated July 10, 1883.
Application filed Ap To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM L. MoDowELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lower Merion, in the county of Montgomery, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attaching Frames and Plates to Stoves, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of means for attaching a stove-plate embodying .my invention. Fig. 2 is a section thereof in line as a, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section thereof in line y Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of an attachment for a frame and plate to a stove, constructed of a lug on the outer face of the stove, a button pivoted to the stove, and having its head on the outer end of said lug, and a slot or opening in the frame or plate to receive the lug of the stove, said head, when rota-ted, overlap ping the sides of the slot or opening in the frame or plate, whereby the frame is prevented from turning and displacement.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a panel, door, or other part of a stove, from the outer face of which projects a lug, B, which is cast with said part A, the lug being of flattened, oblong, or irregular form.
C represents a plate to be aflixed'to the part A, the same having a slot or opening, a, which receives the lug B, and is of similar shape, so' that it nicely fits said slot, thus preventing rotary motion of the plate on the part A.
D represents a T-shaped piece or button, the shank of which is passed through the lug B, and headedor riveted on the back of the part A, thusholding said button in place and permitting rotation thereof. The head of the button is on the outer end of the lug B, and accords with the shape of the slot 4, being of ril 9, 1883. (No model.)
slightly less thickness and length, so that the slot a may readily pass said head in the application of the plate to the part A. It will be seen that when the plate is fitted to the part plate interlocks with said lug and is prevented from turning or rotating.- A half-turn of the button D places its head at a right angle to the slot 0!, so that said head overlaps the side on opposite sides of the slot, thus securely and tightly holding the plate, preventing displacement thereof, and also avoiding looseness and rattling of the same. Should the plate be broken, it may be readily removed and replaced, it being noticed that the head of the button is most conveniently accessible, readily rotated, and easily operated, it also being noticed that the lug and button are on the a, provides a simple and inexpensive fastening or attachment for the plate 0, which is also applicable to frames, panels, and other parts of a stove.
I am aware that T-heads are not new for fastening purposes, and do not claim the same, broadly.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An attachment for a stove plate, frame, &c., consisting of a lug on the outer face of the stove part, a rotatable button, having its head on the outer end of said lug, and a slot in the constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

outer face of the part A, which, with the slot plate which receives said lug, the parts being A the lug B occupies the slot (1, whereby said 7 walls of said slot and bears against the plate
