To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN G. HORNER, of Leon, in the county of Decatur and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Whiffletree-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a trace-fastening, which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Dis the trace, to the end of which is attached the cockeye or eye-piece F. This eye is made tapering from the outside toward the shank, as shown in Fig. 1--that is to say,.the metal is thicker at the outside at a, and then gradusmallest portion of the eye when laid flat, but

no other part.

In hooking the trace the eye is laid fiat on the whiftletree until its smallest part can pass under the point of the hook 0, when the eye will drop down over the end of the whiffletree and be held in place by the hook. The trace can be quickly detached in the same manner.

This Iastening may also be applied to neckyokes or any other part of a harness.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The eye F, made tapering both in width and thickness from a to b, as described, in combination with the hook O and whiffletree or equivalent article, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
