NECK-YOKE LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1914.
Application led November 8, 1913. Serial No. 800,007.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. CoNNnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyd7 in the county of Lac qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to locks especially adapted to be used for maintaining neck yokes in proper position upon wagon tongues and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a structure of the character indicated which is of simple arrangement and which is designed to positively prevent the neck yoke from becoming detached accidentally from a wagon tongue while the draft animals are hitched to the wagon.
With the above object -in view the lock comprises a curved bar adapted to be passed through the stop at the forward end of a wagon tongue the said bar carrying at its ends hooks which are engageable with links mounted upon the ring of the neck yoke. `When the device is applied the points or bills of said hooks are rearwardly disposed and consequently should the traces of the draft animals become loose or unhitched it is impossible for the animals to slip the ring beyond the forward end of the tongue.
In the accompanying drawing F igure 1 is a top plan view of the lock applied. The other figures are detailed views of the several features of the lock.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the tongue 1 is provided in the vicinity of its forward ends with a stop 2 of usual pattern. A neck yoke ring 3 is adapted to be slipped over the forward end of the tongue and when the animals are hitched to the vehicle of which the said tongue is a part the rear side of the said ring is normally held against or toward the forward end of the stop 2. Links t are mounted upon the ring 3 and when the ring is applied to the tongue the said links lie at the opposite sides of the tongue. A curved bar 5 is adapted to be passed through the stop 2 and the said bar is provided at its ends with eyes 6 which engage the shanks of hooks 7 The said hooks are adapted t0 be caught into the links 4 when the ring 3 is slipped over the forward portion of the tongue 1. When the parts are connected together as above indicated the bills or points of the hooks 7 are rearwardly disposed and consequently should the traces of the draft animals become loose or unhitched the forward movement of the draft animals could not slip the ring 3 beyond the forward end of the tongue for the reason that the cross bar 5 which passes through the stop 2 together with the connecting hooks and links would prevent the said ring from slipping beyond the forward end of the tongue and consequently the tongue cannot fall to the ground. Therefore it will be seen that a neck yoke lock of simple structure is provided and that the parts of the same may be easily and quickly manipulated to apply the lock or remove the same from the tongue when desired.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. In combination with a wagon tongue having a stop and a neck yoke ring, a bar adapted to be passed through the stop of the tongue and provided at its ends with hooks which are adapted to be connected with the ring.
2. In combination with a tongue having a stop and a neck yoke ring, links mounted upon the ring7 a bar adapted to be passed through the stop of the tongue and provided at its ends with hooks which are engageable with the said links.
3. In combination with a tongue having a stop and a neck yoke ring, a curved bar adapted to be passed through the stop and provided at its ends with eyes, hooks having Shanks engageable with the eyes, said hooks being adapted to be connected with the said rin E In combination with a tongue having a stop and a neck yoke ring, links mounted upon the ring, a curved bar adapted to pass through the stop and provided at its ends with eyes and hooks having shanks pivotally engaging the eyes, the bills of the said hooks being adapted to engage the said links.
