This invention relates to a .combination night table and chair and has for its primary object to construct a combination chair and night table, having slidably disposed therein in a concealed manner a storage drawer and foot stool.
These and ancillary objects vand structural features of merit, including Va compact, durable and sturdy construction, are attained by this invention, a preferred embodiment of which is set forth `in the following description and illustrated `in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of one embodiment of this invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal enlarged sectional view of the foot stool structure, showing the same in` an extended position from the night table structure, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 5--5 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, the numeral I8 designates one embodiment of this invention, wherein a pair of parallel longitudinally extending base members I2 and I4 are provided and are joined at their rear ends by a transverse member I6 seated thereon. Rear uprights I8 extend upwardly in a vertical plane from the ends of the transverse member I6. A pair of vertically disposed opposing strips 28 and 22 are secured to the base members I2 and I4 and a transverse bar 24 is disposed between the lower ends thereof. A shelf 26 is secured at its forward edge to the cross member 24 and is seated at its rear edge on the transverse inember I6. A front wall 28 extends upwardly from the cross member 24 and is secured at its opposing edges to the strips 28 and 22. An intermediate shelf 38 is disposed in a horizontal plane parallel with the shelf 26 `and vertically spaced therefrom and is mounted on a cross bar 32 disposed transversely between the supporting strips 22 and 28, the shelf being seated at its rear edge on a support 33 and extending through the front wall 28 to project forwardly thereof. A pair of longitudinally extending bracing bars 34 extend from the rear bars I8 along the outer edges, of the front wall 28, the bracing strips being secured in any suitable manner to the rear wall and to the front wall 28. A cross bar 36 is secured transversely between the upper ends of the strips 28 and 22, the cross bar being disposed at the upper edge of the front wall 28 and serving to support a top shelf 38, the top shelf 38 being horizontally disposed and resting on the upper edges of the top wall 28 and the cross bar 36 and projecting forwardly from the rear bars I8. A back wal-1 48 extends upwardly :from the rear edge of top vshelf 38 and -is disposed at right angles thereto. A supporting panel 42 is at tached lat its rear edge' to a cross bar 44 extending between vthe members 20 and 22, the support ing panel extending through the front wall 28 and supported :at its front end on a bracing member 46 .disposed transversely between a pair of vertically disposed members 48 and 58, which are secured at their lower ends to the base members I2 and I4, as seen in Figure 5. A drawer 52 is slidably disposed on the supporting panel 42 and is formed with a front wall 54, which overlaps the members 48 and 58 and abuts against the front edge ofthe supporting panel 42 at its lower end and against ia cross bar 56 at its upper edge, the cross bar 56 extending transversely between the outer end of the supporting member 34. It is to be noted that the shelf 38 is supported adjacent its front endfon the cross bar 56, the shelf extending beyond the closed position of the front wall 54 of the drawer.
the front wall. The front wall and shelf are covered with cushions 68 or similarly upholstered.
A panel 62 is slidably disposed between the base members'IZ and I4, the panel being formed on its underside with a longitudinally extending dovetail 64, the latter being slidably disposed within a pair of complementary guide members 66 and 68 secured between the base members I2 and I4 and forming a guide channel 18. A box-like structure 'I2 is formed integrally on the outer end of the panel 62, the box-like structure comprising a rear wall 'i4 and a front wall 'I6 which extends upwardly above the rear wall, the two walls being joined by side walls 18. A top wail or closure member 88 is hingedly secured as at 82 to the upper edge of the rear wall 'M and is adapted to rest on a supporting panel 84 formed integrally withthe front wall 16.
Casters 86 and 88 are secured to the front portion of the panel 62 and support the same in its extended position as seen in Figure 4. A handle 98 is formed on the front of the wall 16, the front wall being shaped exteriorly similar to the wall 54 so as to simulate the front of a drawer,
It can be seen that the box l2 can be utilized as a foot rest in conjunction with the seat and back.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A night table construction comprising a base, rear uprights extending upwardly from one end of the base, shelves projecting forwardly from and supported by said rear uprights and overlying said base in vertically spaced parallelism, a front wall extending upwardly from said base and supporting the shelves, one of said shelves extending forwardly of the front wall and disposed at right angles to the upper portion of the front wall to define therewith a back and seat panel forming a chair.
2. A night table construction comprising a base, rear uprights extending upwardly-from one end of the base, shelves projecting forwardly from and supported by said rear uprights and overlying said base in vertically spaced parallelism, a :front wall extending upwardly from said base and connected to the shelves, one of 'said shelves extending forwardly of the front wall and disposed at right angles to the upper portion of the front wall to dene therewith a back and seat panel forming a chair, and a box slidably disposed on said base and having an inclined closure member.
3. A night table of stepped construction comprising a base, rear uprights mounted on an end 4 of said base and extending vertically therefrom, center uprights mounted on and extending vertically from said base, a top shelf supported at its ends on said uprights, a center shelf supported at one end on said rear uprights and at its central portion on said center uprights, said center shelf substantially overlying said base, a panel secured to said center uprights between said top shelf and said center shelf, front uprights mounted on the end of said base remote from said rear uprights and supporting the other end of said center shelf, said panel being a seat back and the portion of said center shelf extending between said center uprights and said front uprights being a seat, a box slidably mounted on said base and dening a foot rest for the seat.
