DEVICE FOR CARRY'ING AND EXHIBITING FINGER-RINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 261,651, dated July 25, 1882.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT D. BAKER, of the city of Buffalo, 'in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Carrying and Exhibiting Finger-Rings, of which the following is a specification.
rIbis invention relates to a device designed for the use of traveling agents and other persons who carry a large stock of finger-rings, and whereby such finger-rin gs can be readily displayed for examination or quickly packed in a very small compass, as may be desired.
My invention consists, to that end, of a sheet of suitable fabric or other flexible material, provided on one side with a suitable number of projections, upon which thefinger-rings are placed, and whereby each finger-ring is snpported separately, so that upon spreading the flexible sheet the finger rings will be displayed and can be readily examined, while when such examination is finished the rings are packed compactly by rolling up the flexible sheet.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is atop planview of myimproved device. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof with the marginal portions of the flexible sheet folded over the ring-supports preparatory to rolling up the sheet. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device rolled up.

Arepresents a sheet of suitable fabric, preferably flannel or any other suitable flexible material, and B represents the ring-supports secured to one side of the flexible sheet A, preferablyin parallel rows containing ten supports each, or in'any other manner, so that the number of the rings can be readily ascertained. 'Ihese rin g-snpports have the form of short cylinders or truncated cones, and are constructed of cork or other light material, and made of such size that the rings to be displayed will fit easily over the same and v lin ger-rings,
be retained thereby in position. These supports B are secured to the flexible sheet A by glue or cement, or by tacks, or both, as may be preferred. The ring-supports are arranged only on the central portion of the sheet A, so as to leave the marginal portions A of the sheet free and of sufficient size to be folded over the ring-supports and cover the same, and the rings placed on the same. The sheet A is provided with tie-strings c or some other suitable fastening device, whereby the sheet is secured after being rolled up.
The rings being placed on the supports B, they are readily displayed upon unfolding the sheet, and the number of rings is readily ascertained and any deficiency or the absence of any rings is readily detected at a glance. When the rings have been exhibited the marginal portions of the sheet A are folded over the rings, whereby the latter are protected and confined and prevented from becoming detached from their supports', and the sheet is rolled up, as shown in Fig. 4, and 'secured by the tie-strings c or other suitable fastening devices, thereby reducing the package to a very small compass and permitting it to be easily carried from place' to place.
l claim `as my invention- 1. In a device for carrying and exhibiting a sheet of flexible material provided with projecting supports adapted to hold rings, substantially as set forth.
2. The flexible sheet A, provided with supports B, adapted to hold rings, and having a suitable fastening device, whereby the package can be secured when the sheet is rolled up, substantially as set forth.
3. The flexible sheet A, provided with projecting supports B,secured toa portion of said sheet, and having its portion which is not oc cupied by said supports adapted to be folded over said supports, substantially-as set forth.
