DISPLAY RACK FOR WHIPS.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 15. I914.
Patented May 18, 1915.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN I-I. BAUMEISTER, or nns MOINES, IOWA. 1 i1 DISPLAY-RACK FOR WHIPS.
To all what it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. BAU- MEISTER, a citizen of the'United States, re-
siding at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Racks for Whips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to display racks for whips and more particularly to display racks to be placed in front of the stores or in the windows and designed to retain various samples of whips. j
A further obj eot of this invention resides in the construction of a display rack capable of holding a greater number of samples of whips for display. 7
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of means for fixedly securing the whips upon the rack for preventing removal of the same by unauthorized persons. And a still further object of this invention resides in the construction of a rack, sim le in construction, ornamental in design, e cient in purpose and which can be manufactured at a nominal cost.
These and other objects will more fully appear and the nature of the'invention more clearly understood by the construction, combination and arrangements of the parts v thereof as described in the following specification, defined in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device, showing the same as it appears with the whips secured thereon for displaying the same. Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal, sectional view of my invention showing the interior thereof and the means for mounting the inner cylinder upon the base formed by the bottom of the outer casing, the same being held together at their respective bases. Fig. 3 is a transverse, sectional, view on the line 83 of Fig. 2 showing the detail construction of the means for securing the whips upon the rack.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings and reference being had to the same, 1 denotes the outer casing preferably cylindrical in form and has arranged at the top thereof the inwardly and up- I Specification of Letters Patent. ,Patented May 18, 1915, Application filed January 15, 1914. Serial No. 812,345.
wardly inclined annular flange 2. The bottom of the casing is indented inwardly and I extends upwardly for a short distance within the same and partakes of the frusto-conical form having an inclined diverging wall 3 and the frustum or supplemental base 4 and upon the base 4 is mounted the inner conical shaped cylinder 5 formedwith the apex 6.
The base 7 of the cylinder 5 is of a diameter.
equal to that of the frustum or supplemental base 4 of the bottom of the casing 1, the base of the cylinder 5 and the supplemental base:
threads of the bolt 9 for holding the-base 7 and the base 4 in rigid engagement with each other.
Surrounding the outer wall of the casing 1 and fixedly secured thereto are the upper and lower retaining means 11, for holding the whips thereon and may be made of leather or other flexible material, the retaining members comprising an inner strap 12 circular in direction and of a'diameter to snugly fit the outer periphery of the casing 1, and upon this strap is sewed or otherwise fixedly secured thereto a' second strap 13, and between which at spaced intervals and arranged in series are secured the pairs of metal loops 14 for retaining the whips 17 in position therebetween, and to secure the whips 17 between the loops 14 is provided the lacing strap 15, which strap is laced through the loops 14 and over the whips 17 as shown in Fig. 3, and by drawing the strap 15 to suflicient tension around the holder, the whips 17 are thereby held in secured position between each respective pairs of loops and under. the strap 15, the strap 15 is providedwith the buckle 16 for holding the free ends thereof together when the strap 15. has been drawn sufliciently tight for binding the whips 17 in secured position between the loops 14 and the straps 15.
Surrounding the inner cylinder 5 of the rack and arranged thereon in a position somewhat elevated above the plane of the straps 11 upon the outer wall of the'casing 1 are similar retaining means as those upon the casing 1, the only difl'erence being that the straps are formed of a shorterlength than the first mentioned straps to provide for the reduced diameters of the cylinder 5 for fitting the same upon the periphery of the inner cylinder.
.My display rack may be made of any kind of metal or bent wood suflicient to form the same to perform the functions for.
which the same is designed.
"The assembling of the partsconstitutingmy invention is suificiently obvious from the drawings and. the foregoing description.
The strap or bands for retaining the whips are secured to the respective cylindersby any leather it is to be understood that I do-not restrict myself to making the same of this product but. may use anyv other which may be efliciently used.
While I have here shown and described the preferred form of my'invention, I hereby reserve the right to make such alterations and variations therein from time to time which I may deem expedient and which will not; depart from the spirit of this invention' or conflict with the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully describedvmy invention well known means and while I. have here described the same asbeing formed of what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with an outer cylinder and. an inner conical cylinder rigidly secured therein, of a plurality of retaining means attached to said cylinders for holding articles securely, placed for display upon the said cylinders, each of said retaining means comprising a flexible inner memher; a plurality of metal loops arranged in pairs and secured to the said flexible mem her by. a second flexible member passed throughsaid metal loops and fixedly secured to the first mentioned flexible member between each pair of metal loops; a lacing strap surrounding the saidcylinders and being disposed within the said metal loops, and suitablemeans for securing the ends of said lacing strap together.
2. In a. display rack of the class described comprising an outer cylinder and an inner conical cylinder, a plurality of retaining means attached thereto, each of said retaining means comprising a plurality of metal loops, secured in pairs to a flexible supporting member, said supporting mem her being adjusted to the diameter of the cylinders whereon they rest; a lacing strap disposed through the said metal loops, and suitable means to secure the ends of the said lacing strap.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN H. BAUMEISTER.
