HOLDER FOR PILLOW-SHAMS.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY A. NALLY, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Pillow-Shams,

&c., of which the following` is a full, clear,`

and exact description.

rThis invention relates more particularly to a device for holding pillow shams or other covers which may be placed over the pillows or bed rolls.

The primary object of the invention to provide a simple and efiicient device which may be made adjustable, and which is adapted to hold a pillow or bed roll within the same, and which is adapted to provide a form or support for the pillow sham or other means employed to cover the pillow or bed roll, and to which the sham or other device may be attached, thus serving to properly hold the same in place, and permitting it to be quickly removed when not in use.

A further obj ect of the invention is to pro-l vide a device which may be adjusted to permit one or more of the pillows` to be covered thereby, and to provide a device which may be cheaply made and which is very light.

IVith these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of device adapted to be used in connection with the ordinary bed roll. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line II-II of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a device more particularly adapted for pillows to which the sham or other cover may be attached; and Fig. 4L is a transverse section taken on the line IV-IV of Fig. 3.

The device 10 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises two members 11 and 12, one of which is smaller than the other and is adapted to fit within said other member so as to be telescopic for the purpose of shortening or lengthening the device to adapt it to rolls or other parts of the bed of different lengths or sizes. These members may each be made of wire cloth or thin perforated metal, and are substantially circular in form. The members are provided with slots or openings -13 lengthwise thereof, which are adapted to -be in alinement with each other, and each member has its inner end open and its outer end closed as by a disk or head 14, or said end may be'open if desired. If the memers 11 and 12 are made of wire cloth, they may be held in shape by means of a ring or barr15 which conforms to the shape thereof. and to which the cloth may be fastened, and said members when in the position shown in Fig. 1 may have the roll or other part of the Ybedding forced through the slots 13, so as to inclose said roll. Each member may be provided with a hook 16 at the end thereof, which is adapted to engage the bed post or other part of the bed so as to hold the device in its proper position, and said device may be provided with projections 16a to which the pillow sham or other cover may be attached and thereby properly hold the cover in its proper position, though said projections may be dispensed with if desired.

In Figs. 3 and 4 the device is more particularly adapted for pillows. In this construction, the members 17 and 18 form a segment of a circle so as to tit over a pillow, and may have their outer ends, as at 19, closed or open as preferred, and the member 18 is made somewhat smaller than the member 17 so that the same may be adjusted relatively Vwith respect to the member 18 to adapt it for pillows of different lengths, or the said device may be made long` enough to adapt it to cover two pillows. Each member is provided with a curved body portion 20, and each member may be of perforated sheet metal or woven wire cloth or of any other suitable flexible material. As thus constructed the smaller member 20 is adapted to slide and be held within the member 17, due to the flexibility of the members. Either or both members may be provided at or near one end thereof with a hook or fastening means 21 to adapt it to be held to a part of the bed, as for example the post, and each member is provided at the outer corners thereof with a projection 22. These projections 22 are intended to have the same or other cover fastened thereto, and for this purpose the sham is provided at its ends with a cord or other means by which the sham may be tied to the device or holder. As with the device shown in Fig. 1, the holder shown in Fig. 3 when not in use may be folded into a compact space, so that the same may be packed away conveniently, and

the said device may be used for holding any article that may be placed therein.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and eflicient device is provided which is adapted to support and hold a pillow sham or other cover in its proper position so that the same cannot be easily disarranged; that said device may be adjusted to various lengths of articles to which it is applied, or which permits the device to be made compact for transportation or other purposes; and that said device is simple in construction, and may be readily placed in position foruse.

Having' thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent zh l. A device of the character described, having a curved body portion adapted to cover the pillow, means projecting' outward from the body portion adapted to engage a part of the bed, and projections extending outward from the ends of the body to which the cover may be attached.

A device of the character described, comprising` two members having;` their body portions formed of wire cloth and adapted to ft over the article to be covered, said wire cloth and provided withV a slotleng'th- Wise thereof to permit the article to be cov-jV ered to be inserted within the device, said members being' each provided with an open end and a closed end and one smaller than Y the other so that the device may be telescopic, hooksV projecting' outward from the members adapted to engage a part of the bed, and projections extendingl outward from the members to which theY cover may be attached.
