1 Referring to the drawings, and first to Figures y1.= and .2-,. the numeral-30 designates generally a center desk unit which includes a pedestal or 'standard 3.I, having a top 32 -secured thereto.
Figure aisa fragmentary sectionalviewtaken The top 32, as shown in Figure 1, is of sectorshape, being formed with straight radially disposed side edges 33, a convex outer edge 34, and a concave inner edge 35. The pedestal or standard 3|, as shown more clearly in Figure 8. is formed of I an arcuate central portion 36 formed of plywood and dis-posed in a vertical position, which has extending from the opposite vertical edges thereof arcuate extensions 39.
The arcuate extensions 39 are disposed in forwardly extending position, diverging outwardly and these extensions 39 have secured thereto vertical plywood columns or legs 40. The columns or legs 49 are secured to the outer ends of the extensions 39 by means of 'an overlapping or rabbetted joint, as at 4|. extend below the extensions 39, as shown more clearly in Figure 4, and provide feet 42 for supporting the standard or pedestal in upwardly spaced relation to, the floor.
standard member39 also includes a pair of rearwardly extending; curved .'extensions 31, disposed-in face abutting relation at their inner portionsto the straightcentral inner portions of the front extensions 39, and secured tofthe latter 'by means of dowelsi38, andthe' inner ends of the curvedlextensions v3! and 39 are formed with tongues "63 and 44,"respectively, which are glued 'intoj'a vertical groove '45 formed in the outer edge of the center section 36'. Rear legs'ior column's45'are connected to the rear edges ofthe extensions 31 by an overlapping or rabbetted joint 41. The. lowerlendsof the legs or columns 45' extend} below the'lower edges of] the rear members 31 so as to provide supportingfeed 48' similar tothe feet 42. I r v Referring now tojFigure 6, the central portion 36' of'the pedestalor standard 3| is secured to "th QIOW GI side ofthe top 32 by means of dowels tensions 56, and a rearwardly extending pair of extensions5'l. The forwardedges of the extensions 56 have fixed thereto supporting legs or columns 58 and'the rear edges of the rear extensions 51 have fixed thereto supportin legs or columns 69. The legs 58 and 69 are secured to the extensions 56and 51 in the samemanner as the legs 49 and Mare-secured to the pedestal member 36, as'shown-in Figure 4. a v
The desk unit 3| is adapted to havepositioned on one side thereof a. typewr er desk unit generally designated as 6|. I
The assembly, shownin Figure 1, also includes a drawer unit-generally designated as 13.
With a desk assemblyi. as hereinbefore ,.described, various combination of these units may be used. One combinationis disclosed'in Figure' 1, wherein the center desk unit 39 hasdisposed on the oppositesides thereof a typewriter unit 6| and a drawer unit: 13. :Ifd'esired there may be two desk units, such as unit'39 and unit 52secured together, and onftheopposite side of the desk unit 39 there may .be mounted and secured together a typewriter unit Gland a drawer unit 13. i 1 1 Another arrangement of theseunits is shown:
The legs or columns 49 generally in Figure 8, wherein the rectangular center desk unit 52 has mounted on the opposite sides thereof a pair of drawer units 13. A further arrangement of desk is shown in Figure 9, wherein the typewriter unit BI is the center unit and has disposed on the opposite sides thereof a pair of drawer units 13.
In Figure 10, another arrangement is disclosed using the desk unit 52 with the rectangulartop and having extending fromonly one side thereof a typewriter unit 6| with a drawer unit I 13 extending from the outer side of the typewriter unit 6 Another arrangement of desks is shown in Figure 11, using the center sector-shaped unit 39 and a pair of drawer units '13 on the opposite sides thereof.
In Figure 1 there is disclosed a typewriter um't 6| with only one drawer unit 13 extending from one side thereof. v
Figure 13 also discloses a further iarrangement embodying the two desk units 39'and'52 :with
a pairof drawer units 13 extendin from the outer side of sector unit 39, and the. outer side of rectangular unit 52. v
The arrangement shown in Figures" 7 and 13 merely discloses various desk arrangements which are possible with the separate units herein described;- It will, 'of course, be understood that various other arrangements may bemade, depending on the needs=of the user.
'Each desk unit as hereinbefore described, is
formed of molded plywood, having substantial thickness so as to provide a strong supporting 35" pedestal or tandard. and the tops of the. units may also be formed of plywood of desired thickness; With a'desk construction as hereinbe'fore described, wherein the assembly is formedof separateunits connectedtogether by the rubber 40' shoes, the manufacturrwill be better able to satisfy the demands of the customer by providing standard units whichcan be coupled togetherin any desired manner to provide the necessary-desk e assembly.
' I do'not mean -to'-confine myself to the" exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim allvariations-falling within the purview of the appended claims.'
-WhatIclaimis:' 1. In a desk construction a standard and a desktop of sector shape having a convexouter edge,"aconcave inner edge conforming to the curvature of said outer 'edge and straight 'side edges, said standard including an arcuatec'entral panel conforming to-thecurvature'of said outer and inner edges" extending"transversely beneath said top-:and' positioned intermediately between saidoutera'nd inner edges, arcuate members interlocked with the end of said panel diverging forwardly and rearwardly in opposite directions from each end'th'ereof and front and rear leg portions elongated in transverse section inter-locked with the divergent ends ofeach member extending longitudinally alon saidside edges, said topiandsaid' standard" being comprisedv of" lamiiiations of "integrally formed mouldedplywoodp.
