Description

April 1, 1947. w. MCK. BAIRD DRAWER GUIDING MEANS Original Filed March 22. 1944 Figa Patented Apr. 1, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEl Y DRAWER GUIDING MEANS William McKinley Baird, Chicago, Ill.
Original application March 22, 1944, Serial N0. 527,581. Divided and this application August i 7, 1944, Serial No. 548,454
appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred form for my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a sectional view of my drawer guiding means; Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical cross sectional view; Fig. 3 is an exploded view similar to Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention is adapted for use in a refrigerated locker system.
My drawer I9 has two side walls 4I.
Each side wall 4| has a channel member 43 as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, within which is attached a channel stiffener 44. A drawer roller angle member 45 is attached to stiffener 44. In the upper portion of channel member 43, a ball bearing roller 46 is attached to an angle member 45 and stiffener 44.
Attached to the inside wall 19 of the cabinet, at each of the opposite sides, is a roller guide assembly channel member 49 as shown in Fig. 3. A roller angle member 5l] is attached to said channel member 49. A ball bearing roller 5| is positioned in the front part of the lower portion of channel member 49 and attached to roller angle member 5U and channel member 49.
When the drawer is withdrawn or'closed, roller 46 rolls on either the top leg of channel member 49 or the top leg of roller angle member 59 depending on the distance the drawer is withdrawn. On the lower face of the lower leg of roller angle member rolls roller 5I.
The channel and angle members interengage as heretofore set forth and are of such dimensional tolerances as to give a slight contact on all edges a channel member in a side wall of the drawer having a base, an upper leg, and a lower leg, a stiifener attached to the base and extending from the upper leg to the lower leg of said drawer channel member, a drawer angle member having an upper leg attached to and parallel with said stiiener, with its upper end contacting the upper leg` of said drawer channel member and its lower leg extending inwardly from a line adjacent the middle of said stiffener, a drawer roller rotatably attached to the upper leg of said drawer angle member and said stiifener, a roller guide channel member having a base spaced from and extending parallel with the base of said drawer channel member, a top leg and a bottom leg, both extending toward the base of said drawer channel member and within and parallel to the corresponding upper and lower legs of said drawer channel member, a roller guide angle member having a lower leg attached to and parallel with the base of said roller guide channel member, with its lower end contacting the lower leg of said roller guide channel member, and its upper leg extending inwardly from adjacent the center of the base of said roller guide channel member, said upper leg being positioned above and parallel to the lower leg of said drawer angle member and extending to contact the upper leg of said drawer angle member, the inner end of the lower leg of said drawer angle member contacting the lower leg of said roller guide angle member, a stationary roller rotatably attached to the lower leg of said roller guide angle member, said drawer roller being adapted to travel with the drawer as it is moved and to ride on the under surface of the top leg of said roller guide channel member, or on the upper surface of the upper leg of said roller guide angle member, and the under surface of the lower leg of said drawer angle member being adapted to ride on said stationary roller.
2. Drawer guiding means comprising a drawer, a channel member in a side wall of the drawer having a base, an upper leg, and a lower leg, a drawer angle member having an upper leg attached to and parallel with said base, with its upper end contacting the upper leg of said drawer channel member and its lower leg extending inwardly from a line adjacent the middle of said base, a drawer roller rotatably attached to the upper leg of said drawer angle member, a roller guide channel member having a base spaced from and extending parallel with the base of said drawer channel member, a top leg and a. bottom leg, both extending toward the base of said drawer channel member and within and parallel to the corresponding upper and lower legs of said drawer channel member, a roller guide angle member having a lower leg attached to and parallel with the base of said roller guide channel member, with its lower end contacting the lower leg of said roller guide channel member, and its upper leg extending inwardly from adjacent the center of the base of said roller guide channel member, said upper leg being positioned above and parallel to the lower leg of said drawer angle member and extending to contact the upper leg of said drawer angle member, the inner end of the lower leg of said drawer angle member contacting the lower leg of said roller guide angle member, a stationary roller rotatably attached to the lower leg of said roller guide angle member, said drawer roller being adapted to travel with the drawer as it is moved 4 and to ride on the under surface of the top leg of said roller guide channel member, or on the upper surface of the upper leg of said roller guide angle member, and the under surface of the lower leg of said drawer angle member being adapted to ride on said stationary roller.
