Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
Application filed August 13, 1904. ASerial NO- 220,619.
To (,t/j/f 'iu/1,0711, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. W1LMoT,a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, havel invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in kitchen-cabinets; and its object is to provide improved means for movably supporting the flour-bins, to provide means for preventing access to the bins when the same are closed, and to provide the device with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
My invention consists, essentially, of the combination and arrangement with the flourbin of a kitchen-cabinet of horizontal Ways attached to the frame, rolls attached to the sides of the bin and traversing the ways, said rolls being located substantially opposite or above the center of gravity of the bin and far enough back on the bin so thatA it will project sufciently when drawn forward without bringing the rolls outside the case, guides on the case, and guide-rolls on the bin engaging the said guides, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an end elevation of a device embodying my invention with a part removed to show the construction; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a perspective detail of a bin on a reduced scale.
Like numerals refer to like parts in all of the figures.
l represents the bin of a kitchen-cabinet as usually constructed, on the respective ends of which are mounted suitable supportingrolls 2, which rolls are located intermediate the front and rear thereof and somewhat back of the middle of the side of the bin and near the top thereof. These rolls engage and traverse suitable horizontal ways 4, supported by the frame of the cabinet, and serve to movably support the bin and contents thereof. These rolls are located sufliciently near the rear of the binl so that the bin will project outside the frame for a suflicient distance when the rolls 2 are at the front ends of the ways 4f.v To prevent the loin from rocking on the pivots of the rolls 2, guide-rolls 3 are also attached to the respective ends of the bin close to the rear thereof and so located that the upper sides of said rolls engage the under side of the ways t and traverse the same. Ways 5 are also provided and arranged parallel with the ways 4 whereby a channel is formed between the ways 4 and 5 for the roll 3 to traverse. Said roll is' thus prevented from moving vertically and is limited to a horizontal movement in the channel formed between the ways 4 and 5, and thus the bin is held from rocking on the pivots of the rolls 2. The bin being thus mounted on roller-bearings 2, traversing horizontal ways and held horizontal by rolls 3 traversing between the ways 4: and 5, moves freely to and fro, the supporting-points being always in the same relation to the load and substantially opposite the center of gravity of the same there is but little or no tendency to tilt and bind and no additional tendency to do so as the bin is drawn forward, and is limited in its outward movement by a pin 6 removably inserted in the ways 4 and 5 and engaged by the roll 3. By removing this pin 6 the bin can be removed from the cabinet. To provide a tight cover for the bin,the rear portion of the same is made slightly lower than the sides and front and a suitable Hat plate or slide 7 is slidably inserted in grooves 8 in the respective ends of .the bin, whereby when the slide is closed the top of the bin is effeetually closed against the access of anything thereto. This slide can be moved backward freely Whenever the bin is drawn out, and when the bin is run back to place within the cabinet the rear end of the slide will engage the back of the cabinet andbe automatically moved forward to close the bin.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a kitchen-cabinet, a bin, supports on the bin and located substantially opposite the centerof gravity thereof, ways traversed by IOO the supports, a guide on the bin and located the case, supports on the bin and located near the upper middle portion thereof, and substantially opposite the center of gravity thereof and also adapted to traverse the Ways,
and guides on the bin near the rear thereof,
and traversing the channels.
3. In a kitchen-cabinet, a bin, rolls to support the bin and located substantially opposite the center of gravity thereof, horizontal Ways supporting the rolls and traversed by the same, guide-rolls on the rear of the bin JOHN F. VVILMOT.
