CABINET Fini?, 22,
. Juhu Mw Thflma Patented July 28, 1925.
stares JOHN lv. THOMAS, 0F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
CABINET.
Application ined November 22, 192s. serial No. 676,396.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that 1, Jer-1N M. Tironras, a citizen of the United States, and resident of,e Milwaukee, in the county of ll/lilwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to cabinets.
Objects of this invention are to provide a cabinet equipped with a swinging door and having a movable member therein adapted to carry music rolls, phonograph records or similarl articles, yand to provide means connecting the door with the movable member so that when the door is moved outwardly, the member will be drawn forwardly to a position projecting from the cabinet so that greater access may be had to the contents of the member.
Further objects are to provide a cabinet having a swinging door and a reciprocally mounted member with cooperating means which occupy a minimum of space, which do not detract from the appearance of the cabinet when t-he door is opened, and which may be cheaply and readily produced.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which z- Figure 1 is a plan view of the cabinet with the top removed showing in full lines the position occupied by the parts when the door is closed, and in dotted lines, the position when the door is open.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view on the line 2 2 of F igureA 1.
Figure 3 is a detaill of the supporting and guiding rollers fo-r the movable member.
The cabinet 1 is provided with a swinging door 2 pivotally mounted, as indicated at 3, and adapted to swing outwardly to present a fully opened cabinet. lVithin the cabinet a reciprocally mounted member 4 is provided. This member, as shown in Figure2, may consist of a series of shelves adapted to receive the rolls of music for a player piano, for instance, or phonograph records or other similar articles which are frequently changed or replaced. The member 4 is provided with a series of angle irons 5 upon which vertically and horizontally mounted rollers are carried. These rollers, as shown in Figure 3, cooperate with angle iron rails 8 which are secured by means of screws or other suitable members 9 to the inner sides of the cabinet. These rails, it will be noted, are so arranged that the vertical rollers 6 travel upper surface land thus of the member 4 while the horizontal rollers 7 bear against the vertical portions of the angle irons and are positioned beneath the outwardly projecting flanges, thus prevent- 1iOng inadvertent upward motion of the mem- The door is provided with an upper bracket 1() and a lower bracket 11 secured to its inner face adjacent the pivotal side thereof. The member 4 is provided on its upper side with a clip or tranverse piece 12 which is provided with an elongated slot 13 extending transversely of the member 4. The clip 12 is provided with downturned legs which are secured by means of screws 14 to the up` per face of the member 4. A lever 15 is pivoted to the bracket 10 at one end and is provided at its other end with a roller or pin 16 fitting within the slot 13. The member 16 may, if desired, be provided with an upper flange 17, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, to support the free end of the lever 15 out of contact with the top of the cabinet. If desired, a bottom pla-te or strap 18 may be provided beneath tlie member 12, as shown in Figure 2.
Upon the lower face of the cabinet 4 a pin 19 is secured and vis provided with a suitable spacer 20, as shown. This pin carries a lower ange 21 and is received within the elongated curved slot 22 of a lever 23. This lever is pivotally joined to the lower bracket 11, as may be clearly seen in Figures 1 and 2.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows 1/Viren the door is swung outwardly, the pin 16 of the upper lever slides transversely of the slot 13 until it arrives at the right hand end thereof and the pin 19 slides in the slot 22 until it arrives at its outer end. Thereafter, motion is transmitted to the member 4 and such member is drawn outwardly upon further motion of the door.
It will be seen from the dotted line position of the parts, as shown in Figure 1, that the levers clear the corner of the door and any adjacent portions of the cabinet and that. the inner member or cabinet 4 is drawn outwardly into the dotted line position shown in Figure 2.
It will thus be seen that a cabinet has been provided having an auxiliary cabinet mounted interiorly thereof and adapted for reciprocatory motion and that means have been provided which operatively connect the along their support the weight swinging door of the main cabinet with the auxiliary cabinet in suoli a manner as to draw such auxiliary cabinet outwardly when such door is open.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed.
I claim:
l. The combination of a main cabinet having a swingingly mounted door, an auxiliary cabinet positioned Within said main cabinet, tracks carried by said main cabinet, rollers for supporting said auxiliary cabinet from said tracks, brackets carried by the upper and lower portion of said door and links joining the upper and lower portions of said auxiliary cabinet to said brackets, and adapted to slide said auxiliary cabinet outwardly when said door is opened.
2. The combination of a main cabinet having a door pivotally mounted thereon, a pair of tracks secured interiorly of said main cabinet, an auxiliary cabinet located within said main cabinet, a plurality of guiding and supporting rollers carried by said auxiliary cabinet and cooperating with said trac-ks, and link mechanism having lost motion connecting the upper and lower portions of said cabinet with said door and adapted to draw said auxiliary cabinet outwardly when said door is opened.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
JOHN M. THOMAS.
