Description

June 2, 1931. c, SELANDER" I 1,807,937
COMBINATION TABLE AND IRONING BOARD Filed Oct. 22, 1927 I N VEN TOR A TTORNE Y Patented June 2, 1931 UNITE STATES CHRISTIAN A. SELANDEB', OF BENTON, WASHINGTOIV.
COMBINATION TABLE ND IRONING BOARD Application filed October 22, 1927. Serial Ila 227,875.
The invention is a combination table and ironing board in which the ironing board is made in the top of the table so that it may be folded within the limits of the table which will enable the device to be used as a table or ironing stand.
The object of the invention is to provide a piece of furniture that is adaptable to be used as a table or as an ironing board.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an ironing board which will be located in a very convenient position so that it is always readily accessible.
Another object of the invention is to provide a table having an ironing board built in the top thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for forming an ironing board in the top of a table so that w en the device is folded it will be impossible to see the ironing board.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a combination table and ironing board which is of a simple and economical construction.
VJith these ends in View the invention embodies a. table in which the cover is divided into sections with one section hinged to another .and an ironing board formed on the under side of one section which is adaptable to be opened so that the ironing board will be in a position in which it may readily be used. The remaining section of the cover may also be hinged and an inclosure may be provided under it in which the iron and cord or other objects may be placed.
Other features and advantages of the invention will readily be seen from the following description, taken in connection with the or construction and may be provided with legs 4: with cross members 5 between them to hold their upper ends rigid- One section of the cover which is indicated by the'numeral 6 may be rigidly attached to the legs 4 and the members 5 and the section 7 at the opposite side may be hinged to the upper ends of the legs by hinges 8 as shown in Figure 3. The intermediate section 9 may be hinged to the edge of the section 6 byhinges 10 and an ironing board as indicated bythe numeral 11 may beattached to the under side ofthe section 9 by a support 12. It will be observed that with the section 9 hinged to the section 6 it may readily be opened and moved from the position shown in full lines in Figure 3 to the position shown in dotted lines, and it will be observed that when it is in'the position shown in full lines the device may readily be used as a table and when it is in the position shown in dotted lines it may be used as an ironing board. At the opposite side of the table and below the section 7 is a cross member 13 and another member 14 forming a bottom which form an inclosed space 3 in which the iron or other objects may be placed.
The hinge 10 may be of any suitable design or arranged in any suitable manner to permit the section 9 with the ironing board to swing upward so that it will rest flat upon the upper surface of the section 6, and so that it will not project above the surface of the table when the ironing board section is closed,
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the design of the table as it is understood the panel containing the ironing board may be made in a table of any suitable design, another may be in the design of the ironing board or in the use of other means for supporting it from the panel, another may be in the omission of the'hinges 10 so that the ironing board or panel upon which it is mounted may be free so that they may be placed in any suitable position, and still another may be in the use of other compartments arranged in the table which may be located in the ends, sides or at any other suit- 7 able position.
The construction Will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the device may be used as a table and when it is desired to use the ironing board the panel or section 9 may be raised as shown in Figure 4: and placed in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 3, and also as shown in Figure 2. The iron with the cord and a pad for the ironing board may be kept in the compartment 3 and the cover 7 may readily be opened so that they may be used as desired. It is also understood however that these objects may be kept in any other suitable location and also that any other objects may be placed in the compartment 3 or any other similar compartments on the table.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a table of the character described, a table having a plurality of longitudinal panels forming the top thereof, one of said panels being stationary, means for hinging an intermediate panel to the said stationary panel, a panel at the side opposite the stationary panel forming arest for material being ironed, and an ironing board on the under S1616 of said intermediate panel, sald intermediate panel adapted to raise and rest on said stationarypanel.
