This invention relates to means for mounting drawers, particularly upright drawers in any furniture, for instance bed room furniture like dressers, chests of drawers, vanities, night stands, etc. to provide ample space for hanging clothing, the drawer occupying minimum space and having a movement additional to its sliding to expose the interior, in addition to the structure accommodating a chest or series of drawers.
It is further aimed to provide a novel means for mounting such a drawer or the equivalent for sliding and swinging movement using a structure having hinged parts and guide flanges or the like arranged to abut the drawer and the cabinet or mounting therefor so as to limit the movement of the drawer and parts.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation, showing a chest of drawers or other representative article of furniture embodying my improvements;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a horizontal section taken on the line 4 l of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a vertical section taken on the line 55 of Figure 2;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical section taken on the same plane as Figure 2, but showing the drawer in open position;
Figure '7 is a View taken on the line 1-1 of Figure 6;
Figure 8 is a plan view of one of the slide sections;
Figure 9 is a side elevation of said section of Figure 3;
Figure 10 is a plan View of the companion slide section; and
Figure 11 is a side elevation of said companion slide section.
Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, It represents a conventional article of furniture having at least one upright drawer as at H, which is closed at the front and back, top and bottom and one side, being open at the other side, so that clothing or other articlesmay be hung on racks or any other supporting means within the same. Drawer l l is slidable from front to back in a rectangular space I2 of the frame l3 of the article of furniture Ill. I may of course use more than one of the drawers in the article of furniture, and for instance two as shown, and I may combine them with a chest of drawers or series of drawers as at It, alldrawers being slidably mounted in the said frame l3.
Associated with the top and bottom of each drawer II is a pair of slide members l5 and it, the former, at the inner end being superposed on the latter and the two being pivotally connected together by means of a bolt ll, or the equivalent, whose head 18 is preferably welded flush with the undersurface of the section it, and whose nut I9 is preferably removable. The said sections are adapted for pivotal movement on the bolt or pivot member l8 but their relative pivotal movement is limited by the co-action of a lug 20 on section it with spaced shoulders 2i on the section 16.
Along portions of the length of the sections [5 and i6, they have at each side, laterally extending flanges 22 and 23, respectively. It is to be noted, that said flanges are ofiset from the plane of the sections proper, and away from the plane of engagement of such sections.
Said flanges 22 slide in a pair of hook shaped rails 23' fastened to the drawer ll at top and bottom as by means of screws or the like 24, and the flanges 23 slide in hook shaped rails 25 adjacent the top and bottom of the drawer, fastened as by means of screws or the like 25 on the frame I3.
It will be noted that the top and bottom of the drawer II and the portions of the frame l3 receiving the rails 25, are dadoed so that the front and back of the drawer and flanges 22 will contact and the front and back portions of the frame l3 will contact the flanges 23, thus limiting the sliding movement of the sections l5 and I6 and of the drawer, the latter in its forward or open position being capable of swinging laterally on the bolt I! to facilitate replacing and removal of goods with respect thereto.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination with a slidable drawer and its mounting, a pair of slide devices, one slide device being located between one side of the drawer and its mounting and the other slide device being located between the opposite side of the drawer and its mounting, said slide devices each consisting of sections pivoted together to enable pivotal movement of the drawer when in open position, said devices having flanges extending respectively into the drawer and mounting for abutment with portions thereof to prevent detachment of the drawer and slide devices.
2. In combination with a slidable drawer and its mounting, a pair of slide devices, one slide device being located between one side of the drawer and its mounting and the other slide device being located between the opposite side of the drawer and its mounting, said slide devices each consisting of sections pivoted together to enable pivotal movement of the drawer when in open position, said sections having means thereon dadoed into the drawer and mounting to prevent deta ch-. ment of the drawer and of the slide devices.
3. In combination with a slidable drawer and its mounting, a pair of slide devices, one slide device being located between one side of the,
a lug, and the companion section having spaced shoulders engageable by the lug to limit the relative movement of the sections.
4. In combination with a slidable drawer and its mounting, a pair of slide devices, one slide device being located between one side of the drawer and its mounting and the other slide device being located between the opposite side of the drawer and its mounting, said slide devices each consisting of sections pivoted together to enable pivotal movement of the drawer whenin openposition, and hook shaped rails on the drawer and mounting in which said slide devices are movable.
5. In combination with a slidable drawer and its mounting, a pair of slide devices, one slide device being located between one side of the drawer and its mounting and the other lide device being located between the opposite side of the drawer and its mounting, said slide devices each consisting of sections pivoted together to enable pivotal movement of the drawer when in:
open position, said devices having flanges co-acting with the drawer and mounting to prevent detachment of the drawer and slide devices, and
hook rails disposed one in engagementwith each;
flange and on the drawer and mounting.
