3 Claims.
This invention relates to a novel memo bad attachment for telephones, wherein a strip of paper, suitable as a memorandum, is held in position so that the user can write thereon while using the telephone.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel memo pad attachment for telephones, which can be easily, quickly and effectively attached to the base of a telephone, and which will be clamped to the base so that the attachment can be readily moved from place to place with the telephone, as desired.
Another object of my invention is to provide an attachment for telephones of the character stated, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and effective in use.
A feature of my invention resides in the manner in which the strip of note paper is held and threaded through the attachment, so that it is readily available to the user, is also inclined to the horizontal, thus making the memo more readable and also easier to write upon.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel attachment of the character stated, in which the frame which holds the roll of paper is also utilized as a means to clamp the attachment to the telephone.
Other objects, advantages and features of in vention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my memo pad attachment.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a base plate, preferably formed of a suitable metal and both edges of which are bent downwardly and inwardly, as shown at 2, to form a channel or space through which the strip of memorandum paper can pass, as will be subsequently described.
One end of the base plate I is turned upwardly at an angle to the horizontal, as shown at 3. The purpose of this inclination is to provide a proper angular table upon which the user can write the necessary memorandum.
A box 4 is fixedly attached to the base plate I, preferably by welding or the like, and the inner end of the bent portion 3 is weld-ed or otherwise attached to this box, thus providing a rigid and integral construction which can act as a shoulcler or stop for the telephone, as will be further described The box 4 is hollowand preferably rectangular, and a roller 5 is journalled in the box, and this roller is rotated by means of the knurled knobs 6-1, which are attached to each end and which are accessible from the outside of the box, as shown. An idler roller 8 is also journalled in the box 4 and bears against the roller 5, thus acting as a means to press the strip of paper 9 against the roller 5, thereby advancing the paper as the knobs 6-'I are rotated. A cutoff plate I0 is also mounted on the box 4 and is positioned above the idler roller 8, thus providing a means of cutting the strip of paper, as desired by the user.
A pair of clips III2 are adjustably attached to the base plate I by means of the bolts I 3-I4, respectively, thus providing a means whereby the base of the telephone I5 may be fixedly attached to the base plate I so that the memo pad attachment will :be movable with the telephone.
A paper frame I6 is adjustably mounted on the rear of the base plate I in the following manner:
A tongue I1 on the paper frame I6 is provided with a slot I8, through which the bolt I9 extends, and this bolt is threaded into the base plate-I, thus permitting longitudinal adjustment of the paper frame IE on the base plate I. The paper frame I6 is provided with curved ends 2II--2I, which fit around the base I5 of the telephone, thus further securing the entire memo pad attachment to the base of the telephone when the paper frame is slid lengthwise on to one end of the telephone frame.
When the pad attachment is secured to the base I5 of the telephone, the rear face of the box 4 will engage one edge of the telephone base, the clips III2 will each engage one side of the telephone, and the frame I6 will partially encircle one end of the telephone base, thus securely holding the entire pad attachment assembly on the telephone.
A roll of paper 22 is journalled in the frame I6 and the paper is threaded under the base I and therefore under the base of the telephone, and thence over the inclined table 3 and between the rollers 5 and 8. As fresh paper is required, the roller 5 is rotated, thus pullingthe required length of paper on to the table 3 from the roller 22 Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A memo pad attachment for telephones comprising a base plate, a transverse box fixedly mounted on the base plate, an upwardly inclined table extending from said base plate and fixedly attached at one end to said box, a paper frame, means adjustably attaching said paper frame to said base, and a manually rotatable roller journalled in said box, said paper frame including curved sides to extend partially around the base of the telephone and hold the memo attachment on -the telephone, and the base of the telephone being pressed against one face of the box.
2. A memo pad attachment for telephones comprising a sheet metal base plate, each longitudinal edge of the base being curved downwardly and inwardly, one end of said base beingbent upwardly at an angle to form a table, a box extending transversely of the base and fixedly attached thereto, said table portion being fixedly attached to the box at one end thereof, a feed roller journalled in the box, an idler roller engaging the feed roller, said idler roller being journalled in the box, a. paper frame, means adjustably securing the paper frame to one end of said base, a clip adjustably secured to said base, one on each side of the base and between the paper frame and the box, each side of the paper frame being curved upwardly and inwardly to partially encircle one end of the telephone base, said telephone base being held between the paper frame, said clips, and said box.
3. A memo pad attachment for telephones comprising a sheet metal base plate, each longitudinal edge of the base plate being curved downwardly and inwardly, one end of said base plate being bent upwardly at an angle to form a table, a box extending transversely of the base and fixedly attached thereto at the end adjacent said table, said table portion being fixedly attached at one end thereof to said box, a feed roller journalled in the box, a metal paper frame mounted on the base plate at the end opposite said table portion, a tongue on the paper frame over-laying one end of the base plate, a bolt extending through the tongue of the base plate, said tongue having an elongated slot therein through which the bolt extends thereby adjustably securing the paper frame to said base, each side of said paper frame being curved upwardly and inwardly to partially encircle one end of a telephone base, the other 7 end of the telephone base being pressed against one face of said box.
