[Class 146 (i)] A holder for sheets of paper in pad or loose form comprises a backing member 10 supported in a tilted position by members on the underside thereof which receive downwardly projecting portions on a holding- down member 15 under which the sheets 12 are inserted, springs 18 located within the supporting members tending to tighten the member 15 on to the sheets. The member 15 consists of a rod the straight length of which may be enclosed in corrugated rubber tubing, and the ends of the rod are passed through the backing 10 and wedge-shaped pieces 16 into housings 17, Fig. 4, for the springs 18, feet 19 being slidable telescopically within the housings and screwed to the ends of the rod, and nuts 20 are provided to secure the feet in position. To release the sheets 12, the feet 19 are pressed within the housings 17. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the holder rests on the ends of the housings 24, the springs are retained by two lock-nuts 23, and a tool consisting of a bar having projections thereon is provided, these projections being inserted into the housings to compress the springs when the sheets 12 are to be released. In the case of a pad of sheets 12, two cardboard or like strips 22 are secured thereon leaving a groove for the reception of the rod 15. Stops 11 register the sheets on the backing 10. The backing 10 may be recessed or shouldered whereby a sheet may be folded back and retained in that condition by inserting it between the recesses or shoulders.
