Abstract

753,089. Clamp fastenings. GRUBB, K. T., and GRUBB, B., [trading as STRUERS CHEMISKE LABORATORIUM, H.]. June 29,1954 [July 14, 1953], No. 19015/54. Class 44. A clamp comprises a first clamping member 3 having a pair of V- shaped seats at one end which seats are spaced apart and aligned to receive and support a first tube (or a bar, rod or the like) from one side, and having one V- shaped seat at the other end which seat is shaped to secure a second tube (or a bar, rod or the like) in a position perpendicular to the first tube and to support the second tube from the same side as that from which the first tube is supported in a pair of seats, a second clamping member 8 having a counter seat located intermediate the pair of seats and the one seat of the first clamping member and substantially aligned with but inverted relative to the said one seat of the first clamping member so as to be capable of supporting the second tube from the other side, and means 13 for clamping the two members 3, 8 together. The first clamping member is made from an elongated strip of sheet material provided at one end with lateral lugs 5, 6 at both sides, the lugs being bent up along longitudinal lines 15, 16 and having aligned notches 17 to form the pair of seats, and at its other end with an end lug 4 bent up along a transverse line 18 and having a notch 19 to form the other seat. The second clamping member 8 has a hook 7 which forms the counter seat and a threaded shank 9 which is engaged by the means 13, which is a wing-nut. The shank has a flat 10 and the hole 11 on the member 3 through which the shank passes is made with a flat 12 so that the two clamping members are prevented from relative rotation. In addition to clamping two tubes &c. together, the device can also be used to clamp a rod to a flat or curved member, the rod being received in the notch 19 and the hook 7 and engaging one face of the member and the lugs 5, 6 engaging the other face of the member.
