ATTORNEY v. Washington 0. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE D. HULL, OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,864, dated April 4, 1882.
Application filed November 22, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. HULL, of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanyin g cured or attached by sewing or otherwise to .the shirt-body,allof which is'more particularly shown anddescribed hereinafter.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved shirt. Fig. 2 is a section through the line a: .90.
The purpose of this invention is to construct a shirt so that its bosom will retain a smooth and unruffled surface when on the person and not be subject to the puckering imparted to the body of the shirt by the movements of the wearer.
An additional advantage arising from my invention is that the bosom will not become saturated with perspiration, since there is no immediate contact between the shirt-bosom and the front of the shirt-body, excepting at To construct my improved shirt the body A, of any required size or pattern, as ordinarily made, is first provided, and a shirt-bosom, B, ofany desired pattern, is sewed at its upper end, a, to or immediately below the collar-band b and yoke, and the bosom is also sewed to the body of the shirt at its lower end, 0. With the exception of these upper and lower fastenings the bosom B is in no wise attached to the body of the shirt. On the contrary, an open space is left between the bosom and the shirtbody at all other points. A shirt constructed substantially as above described will under all ordinary circumstances maintain its bosom in a smooth unrufiied condition, besides being somewhat cooler to the wearer by reason of the better ventilation produced in consequence of the unconfined space between the bosom and the body of the shirt.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shirt having its bosom B connected thereto at its upper end to the collar-band and yoke and at its lower end to the body of the shirt, and unattached elsewhere throughout its entire area, substantially as shown and described.
