GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept.. lll, i917.
Application led May 23, 1917. Serial No. 170,432.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALFRED I-I. VVAir, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lincoln, Sta-te of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in ventilating garments and is directed to an appliance by which garments, and more particularly waists, may be effectively ventilated.
An object of the present invention is to provide a `Ventilating appliance, in the form of a porous or loosely woven fabric band, which is designed for permanent or removable attachment, as desired, to 'the bottom edge portion of a waist of theblouse type and permits the air to circulate freely therethrough, and between the blouse and the body of the wearer so that a material reduction in the temperature about the body is secured.
A further object of the invention-is to provide -an insertion or band of the above character with which is associated a stiffening element for maintaining the insertion when in use in a positiony to permit the air to circulate therethrough.
lVith the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parte, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the bottom portion of a blouse with the invention permanently attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the blouse and the attachment showing the position assumed when in use.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and,
Fig. l is a fragmental perspective view :illustrating a modified form of the invention detachably associated with a blouse.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing there is shown the lower portion of a blouse A to which the invention is applied and designated generally at B.
Specifically the appliance consists of a strip or band 5 of porous or loosely woven fabric, the edge portions of which are suitably bound by means of tape G stitched or otherwise secured thereto. This band 5 is applied to the bottom or lower marginal edge of the blouse A and extends continuously therearound, it being secured in place either permanently as by stitching as shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3 or detachably as shown in F ig. t by providing in the tape button' holes 7 for receiving buttons 7 carried by the blouse. rIhe band is further provided in its free longitudinal edge portion with a plurality of button holes S to detachably receive the usual suspender. buttons 9 found on the waist band of trousers and like garments. rlhere is also provided between the folds of the inner tape binding a stitlening element l0 preferably in the form of a length of relatively light wire, featherbone or whalebone although I do not wish to be limited in this respect. In use the band 5 and lower portion of the blouse is folded inwardly as is usual to give to the blouse the requisite fullness and the button holes S engaged with the buttons 9 of the trousers. lllhen so arranged the stilfening element l0 will serve to maintain the band 5 in a posi- .tion to permit the air to pass therethrough and circulate freely between the blouse and the body of the wearer, there being thus secured a material reduction in the temperature about the body to render the garments more comfortable during warm weather.
What I claim is A Ventilating appliance for blouses consisting of a band of porous material adapted to be secured to the lower edge of a blouse, and having means for its detachable engagement with a garment arranged beneath the blouse, and a stilfening element associated with the band for maintaining the same in a position to permit the free passage of air therethrough between the blouse and the garment therebeneath.
In testimony whereof, I aliix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED H. WAIT.
Witnesses Mrs. L. IV. llnrr, N. J. DAWSON.
