A. p. LESSER SPORTS TROUSERS Filed Oct 28, 1925 Patented Jan. 26, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT D. Lnss'nn, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPORTS TBQ'IISERS.
Application filed October- 28, 1925. Serial No. 65,276.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ALBERT D. Lnssnn. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Sports Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers and more particularly to sports trousers of .the type commonly worn in playing golf and other games.
It is an object of this invention to provide such trousers with means by which the same may be ventilated in order to secure to the wearer a greater degree of comfort than is possible in the ease of ordinary trousers.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.
A preferred embodiment of the invention selected for purposes of illustration is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figures 1 and 2 respectively, and
are front and side views Figure 3 is a detail view of the ventiIat ing tapes.
Referring to the drawings, a pair of trousers of the more or less'usual type known-as knickerbockers are illustrated, having the usual waistband 1, fly 2, side pockets 3 and straps 4 which may be secured about the leg by means of buckles or buttons in the usual manner.
According to the present invention, it is proposed to provide such trousers with means through which air may pass more easily than is possible through the fabric of which the trousers are made, in order that the trousers may be effectively ventilated thereby. In the preferred embodiment illustrated, in order to ventilate the trousers. the outside scams 5 from the lower ends of the pockets 3 to the straps 4 have inserted therein tapes 6 of relatively loosely woven or knitted material through which air may pass'readily. Preferably the tapes are so formed as to provide apertures or openings 7 therein which permit even 'greater freedom for the passage of air.
therein.
If desired, the inside seams 8 may also have tapes 9 of similar material inserted therein or the trousers may be provided with the ventilating tapes only in the inner seams.
Preferably, however, both inner and out er seams are provided with the ventilating r tapes, for a circulation of air is thereby permitted which secures maximum ventilating effect.
As will be observed, when the wearer of the trousers described is walking, movement of the legs causes a constant circulation of air and at times a sort of breathing effect which causes. air to be drawn in and expelled through the tapes and through the openings As a result the trousers are cooler and more comfortable than those of usual construction.
hile intended primarily for the utilitarian purposes above described, the insertion of the tapes in the seams also improves the appearance of the trousers as they may be made of materials woven or knitted in such manner as to be decorative or ornamental as well as useful,
It has also been observed that due to the free passage of air provided, the trousers. when worn, hang with a certain fullness. not usually observed, which is thought by some to have a pleasing effect.
It is to be understood that the invention may be variously modified and embodied within the scope of the subjoined claim.
I claim as my invention:
As an article of manufacture. a pair of trousers having side pockets and the usual outside and inside seams in each leg, a loose- .ly fabricated tape insert in each of said seams, said tape being more pervious than the material of which trousers are made and also presenting spaced openings through which the trousers may be ventilated. said inserts in the outside seams extending from the lower points of the pockets substantially to the bottoms of the legs.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 26 day of October, 1925.
ALBERT l). LESSER.
