UNDERGA'RMENT.
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs Terms, a citizen of the United States, residing at W11- -mingtom in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a speciL fication.
My invention relates to improvements in undergarments, the object of the invention being to provide an undergarment with an improved construction of ventilated crotch which is' especially adapted for use in connection with union suits, drawers, or other similar garments, and which not only per' mits of a certain amount of elasticity, but
also allows ventilationto render the gar ment comfortable to the wearer.
A further object is to provide an imj;
proved construction of crotch in which flexile woven material is employed two thicknesses, which gives the necessary strength and durability, and provide in thel double thickness of material sewed or em.- broidered eyelets which permita free circulation of air through the crotch, and also operate as a connecting medium between the two thicknesses of material.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel' features 'of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as willbe more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figurel is a view in front elevation of an undergarf ment having my improved construction of crotch.- Fig. 2 is a plan view of the crotch when flattened out', and Fig. 3 is a view in section on line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
1 represents the garment which majr constitute a union suit as shown, and which is i provided with legs 2, 2.
3 represents the improved crotch which is widest at its center, and tapers te both ends,l
Specification of Letters Patent.
' 'rai-enten July 18,1916.
I Application filed September 25, A19145. Serial N o.- 52 .555Al stitching 5. These stitches aie so made thatA they permit the goods` to expand and contract without tearing the stitches, and they extend transversely of the crotch at the edges of the sheet 4 as shown clearly in Fig. 2. In the double thickness of material at the center of the` crotch, I provide eyelets 6 which are of the type known as embroidered or stitched eyelets, the'thread's forming the ".5
eyelets extending through both thicknesses of material andoperating to form the open-l ings, and also to secure the no vthicknesses of material together. The material lof the crotch may, of course, be varied, ,but 1 use preferably what 1s known on themarket as webbing, and the two thieknesses are so connected that the material can stretch mall directions, yet securely hold the several'- parts of the garment together, ,and provide a smooth ventilated crotch vmost efliciently performing the functions for which itis intended.
Various slight changes might be made in 4the generalform and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence 1 I do not -limit myself -to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations :is-fairly fall `within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letfv ters Patent is:
1. A garment having leg portions with an opening adjaccntthe crotch thereof, a
piece of flexible material fitting said opening and having its edges secured to the edges provid-ing said opening, said piece having holes providing vents therein, a second piece of flexible material having opposite edges in aliiiiement with and secured by stitching to opposite edgesof said first piece, said second piece liavi g two other edgeswhich are secured by resili ynt ,stitches to said 'rst piece,
said second piece having holes in alinement with the holes of said first piece and forming vents, the edges forming the vents of each of said pieces being bound by stitching` which passes through and secures both of' said pieces together, substantially as described.
2. A garment having legportions with" an opening adjacent the crotch thereof, said opening having opposite -portions produced by converging edges which intersect eachjothei', a piece of flexible ma iio , -terialiigtingjsaid opening and.l edges' secured `eothe a opening, said piece having holes having its edges providing said providing a second piece of fiexible mave'nts therein, l
' opposite edges 1n aliuement terlel having with1 and secured by edges of seid irst'piece, said second piece having -iwo other 4edges which span the tpered portion of said iii-si: piece and` are secured thereto by elastic "stitching, seid second piece hevingvhoics in alinemen't with theholesofseid rst piece and iormiufv Stitching to opposite meme@ Louis @omis Witnesses.:
