JOHN J. I rz PATRICK, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MENS DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19,385, dated April 7, 1874; application filed November 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J OSEPH FIrz PATRICK, of the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania,
have invented certain Improvements in Drawers, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the manufacture of mens and boys drawers; and the Object of said invention is to provide and secure, by the peculiar construction and shaping of the drawers, comfort and convenience in the fit, and an increased durability in the wear.
My invention is equally applicable to handmade fabric as well as woven goods, and to cotton, silk, wool, and merino fabrics, as to linen, leather, and othersuch goods.
By the peculiar shape of the crotch, as provided for, all pockets and wrinkles are entirely prevented, by which not only comfort in wearing such drawers is obtained, but also a perfect fit of the pantaloons, such as can never be obtained by the use of our present drawers.
In the accompanying sheets of drawings, Figure I represents the front part of one leg; Fig. II, the hind part; and Fig. III, the whole garment made up.
The stitched line 0 c of part A is sewed on or woven together with the stitched line (I d of part B, thus forming one leg and one side of a pair of drawers. Similar parts stitched or woven together form the other leg and-the other side of the drawers. The two legs are then sewed together on the back, at e of part B. f f of Fig. III show the peculiar curvature and cutting out of the front of the drawers and the joining of the two legs at g of the crotch. This construction, together with the convened edges of the legs, from the crotch downward, constitutes the difference between my invention and others in the market of a like class, and insures a more perfect fitting leg, and prevents wrinkles and other inconveniences in the garment.
From such shaped patterns, to be reduced or enlarged as the size of different persons may require, drawers of any size are manufactured.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- As a new article of manufacture, a pair of drawers formed by the legs C D, cut from patterns A B, having the convex edges 0 d, concave edges ff, and the joining-line of stitches from c to g, all substantially as described.
JOHN J. FITZ PATRICK.
