mun STATES PATENT Enron JOHN JOSEPH FIIZ PATRICK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,773, dated April 6, 1875; application filed November 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN JOSEPH Frrz PATRICK, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Drawers, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide for certain improvements in the manufacturing of mens and boys drawers, by the peculiar construction and shaping of which comfort and convenience in the tit, and an increased durability in the wear, are obtained.
My invention is equally applicable to handmade fabric, as Well as to woven goods and to cotton, silk, wool, and merino fabrics, as well as to linen, leather, and other such goods. I refer to a patent granted to me April 7, 1874, numbered 149,385, for improvements in drawers.
The peculiar curvature and cutting out of the front of the drawers, as shown and represented in the above-mentioned patent, is the subj ect of the alteration and improvements hereafter described.
While the cutting out of the front of the drawers, from the crotch upward, is necessary for the perfect fit, experience has proved that only one of the sides requires to be cut out in a curved line, as represented in the above-mentioned patent. The other side, from the crotch upward to the lining, is cut in a diagonal or straight line. The material bounded by the diagonal line overlaps the material bounded by the curved line, say, one inch, more or less, where they both meet together in the crotch, making a more perfect fit. By this arrangement the drawers will accommodate themselves to the body of the wearer, and prevent all pockets 7 and wrinkles of the material.
In order to describe my invention more fully I refer to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and representing a front view of a pair of drawers.
A and B are the legs of the drawers, joined together in the crotch g. f is the curved line bounding the front side H of the drawers. 9' is the diagonal or straight line, bounding the other front side K of the drawers. At 1) the -material bounded by line j overlaps the ma- J. J. FITZ PATRICK.
