Description

UNITED STATES PATENT CF'FICE.
DAVID WESTCOTT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,815, dated September 8, 1674; application filed June 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID WEsTooTT, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new `and useful Improvement in Vests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to p which my invention appertains to fully underor saving of material in my invention.
My invention consists in the construction of a vest whereby the concave shape necessary to properly fit the human form is readily produced without the necessity of gering, as is heretofore customary, and there is a saving in material.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the vest, the roll portion B of which is cut with the line G extending inwardly from the top a ofthe front portion of the vest to the top of the neck portion b, thus forming the gorge D. G represents the roll of the vest, the face portion of which is to be sewed or stitched to the body of the vest at the line c, which is adjacent to the line G of the roll, and covers the gorge D of the vest. The rear portion of the roll folds against the stitfener of the roll, and has stitched or sewed to it the lining of the vest. In Fig. 1, I show, by the dotted line d, the line at which the roll has been heretofore out, and at ee the gores necessarily employed to impart the concave shape to fit the chest of the human body. These gores are entirely dispensed with by means of the inwardly-extending gorge D, and the desired concave shape is better produced by means of said gorge, since the vest is thrown out at the breast portion.
By this construction, also, I save the piece of vest material, Fig. 3, the piece of padding, Fig. 4, and the piece of under collar, Fig. 5, whereby there isa great saving in material,
which saving occurs between the line d andV roll-line C, and this, with the improvement in the iit, rendersmy invention practical and serviceable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Avest constructed with the inwardly-curved gorge D, in combination with the roll G, secured to the body of the vest adjacent to the line C, as shown, and covering said gorge D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
