Description

Combined vCollar and Muff.
MARTIN VANNAGAT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED COLLARS AND MUFFS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,862, dated April 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN WANNAGAT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Collar and Muff; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l is a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section in the line w of Fig. l.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a combination of a collar and muff; and consists of a colla-r of fur provided on the under side near or at its ends with suitable fastening devices for attachment to the outside of a mud, which is also provided at the proper places with correspondin g fastening devices, in such a manner that the ends of the collar can be separately fastened to the muff. The mu' is provided with a iiap or curtain, which rises at`or near-the line where t-he ends of the collar are fastened, so that the curtain seems to be the prolongation of the collar. This combination not only produces an agreeable appearance, retaining the ends of the collar in front and close to the mu'; but, also, supports the muf independently of the hands of the wea-rer, the muti' being so connected to the collar that itis prevented from falling tothe ground at such times as the wearers hands are withdrawn from it. Moreover, the fastening devices are so made and arranged that they can be undone, and the two articles separated from each other to be worn apart.
The letter A designates a fur collar to be worn around the neck, on whose lapels B B at or near their ends, are arranged hooks C, or other suitable fastening devices, fone of which is seen in section in Fig. 2. One or more of such fastening devices are placed on each lapel of the collar according to its width. The letter D designates a muif, 'on the outer face of which, at corresponding points to meet the fastening devices on the collar, are arranged clasps E, or other suitable fastening devices t0 receive the hooks of the collar. The fastening devices E are secured to the pelt, and are hid by the fur ot the muli', so that they are not exposed to view when the fastenings are undone and the mul' is worn separate. The front of the mulf is .provided with a curtain of fur, F, which rises at or near the line where the ends of the collar are connected to the mud', and being' of similar material, presents the appearance of being the terminal prolonga tion of the collar. The curtain serves also to cover a pocket, G, made in the mutt and opening from the outside thereof.
I do not claim attaching toeach end of a cape or collar separate cuffs, the sides of which when united form a mutt', as such is not new but \Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y As a new article of manufacture, a combined collar and mul`,detacl1ably connected together by hooks and clasps, and provided with a flap, E, at their junction, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MARTIN WANN AGAT.
